Chennai, October 5: The Tamil Nadu Government on Friday announced a cash award of Rs 25 lakh to the newly crowned world chess champion Viswanathan Anand.

Congratulating the champion for the victory, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had granted the cash prize on behalf of the Government, it added.

The Chief Minister also awarded cash awards to the tune of Rs 96.05 lakh to 28 sports persons, including 11 women, who had won medals in the recently-held Commonwealth games in Melbourne and the tenth South Asian Games held in Sri Lanka.
