TVS Motor sales up 5 pct in Jan

New Delhi Chennai-based two-wheeler maker TVS Motor Company today reported 5.06 per cent increase in its total vehicle sales in January at 1,73,514 units.

The company had sold 1,65,152 units in the same month last year, TVS Motor Company said in a statement.

Two-wheeler sales of the company grew by 5.80 per cent last month to 1,71,112 units from 1,61,725 units in the year-ago period, it added.

Scooter sales increased by 1.80 per cent to 41,469 units in January from 40,736 units in the same month of 2011, while motorcycle sales declined by 3.12 per cent to 65,608 units from 67,721 units in the year-ago period.

The company's domestic two-wheeler sales registered a growth of 7.58 per cent to 1,53,014 units against 1,42,227 units in January 2011.

Three-wheeler sales of the company went down by 29.91 per cent to 2,402 units from 3,427 units in the same month of 2011, the statement said.

Company's total exports decreased 12.32 per cent to 18,610 units from 21,224 units in the same month previous year, it added.
