According to Vashi police, who are investigating the case, the accident occurred around 7 am at the Vashi toll naka after a speeding tanker (MH-04-BU-6631), on its way to Pune, crashed into a taxi carrying vegetable vendors. After the taxi was hit by the tanker, it rammed a TATA Indica car and TATA Sumo injuring seven others.
The victims, who were on their way to Vashi APMC market, have been identified as Vijay Kumar Jaiswal (35), Krishna Kumar Gupta (26) and Dinesh Pandey (35).
While four of the seven injured in the mishap have been admitted to the Vashi Mahatma Gandhi Mission hospital, three others were admitted in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation hospital.
The driver of the tanker, Nagendra Prasad Yadav (31), has been arrested by the Vashi police on charges of rash driving and causing death due to negligence.
Meanwhile, in another accident, a 19-year-old girl died in an accident at Jui-Nagar. The victim, Archana Rathod (19), was on her way to Panvel with her friend Vinit More on a motorbike when they were hit by a truck from behind. More who was injured in the accident was admitted to the NMMC hospital. The police have arrested Dyandev Jadhav, the driver of the truck.
