Addressing the gathering, Dr Kidwai said the progress made by one of the oldest departments of journalism in Asia was commendable. “Though press had a significant role to play in the freedom struggle of the country, in free India it is even more important. It is the duty of the press to keep people informed and help in moving democracy wheel more easily,” he said.
Vice-Chancellor Prof R C Sobti lauded the efforts of students in organising the fest and said this should be made an annual affair. He talked about the relevance of media in the current times.
Various events letting the participants showcase their abilities and capabilities in various facets of the world of mass media were held. Collage making, face book which included speaking, writing, T-shirt painting, face painting, and modeling it on one theme, photography, cartooning, short filmmaking as well as copy writing kept the participants busy in exhibiting their talents.
The day concluded with a cultural evening Tashan. It began with a dance performance from the Rhythm group, its 11 members have been together since past three years and have consistently given various scintillating performances. Thereafter, Himanshu and Dennis played various melodious numbers on a guitar. The three stand-up acts put up by- Manav from SD College, Kunal from University Business School and Yogesh,Sanghamitra from the Department of Mass Communication entertained the audiences to the hilt.
The students of the department also presented a skit “Cholay- A Sholay spoof” which had the sent the audiences in roars of laughter. A troop from GCG -42, performed a Punjabi folk dance. There were other dance performances by students which covered all genres of dance from retro to Salsa to Bollywood to Bhangra.
The three-day fest would see the participation of students from eleven universities across the country.
