The MCD, however, said the teacher was trying to resolve a dispute between the students. The Outer Delhi police have registered a case of causing grievous hurt against the teacher on the basis of the allegations by the children. He was arrested later on Thursday.
Police officials said the incident took place around 10.30 am, when Anil (11) and Narender (12), both students of Class IV at the MCD Primary School in C-block, Metro Vihar, were standing outside their classroom. They alleged that a teacher of Class I, Pradeep Kumar, slapped both of them separately. Anil was allegedly pushed back due to which his head hit the grill of the window and he received injuries on his head, while Narender received minor injuries on his right cheek.
The police were informed and both were taken to the Raja Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela. They were reportedly discharged after first-aid treatment but the police had to register a case as family members demanded action against the teacher.
Both students are residents of A Block, Metro Vihar and their parents work as labourers. Pradeep Kumar is a resident of Sonepat in Haryana.
The MCD has, meanwhile, ordered an inquiry into the matter. “The teacher was trying to resolve a fight between the students,” said Prithvi Raj Sawhney, Chairman of the MCD Education Committee.
A schoolteacher also spoke on the issue and said: “The students were playing in the school playground and had a fight in the morning. There were also some complaints that they were spitting in the classroom. Pradeep Kumar slapped them in order to punish them. The force of the slap was so hard they fell on the window and sustained injuries. He did not intend to injure them.”
