Mumbai, January 2: The Indian team is to lodge a protest against the poor umpiring on the opening day of the second cricket Test at Sydney which enabled Australia to recover strongly.

Taking strong exception to some of the umpiring errors during the match, the BCCI has asked the team management to lodge an official protest with ICC Match Referee Mike Procter.

"We have asked our team management to lodge a protest to the ICC match referee against the wrong umpiring decisions made today by Steve Bucknor. The wrong decisions made by Bucknor have been commented upon by all cricketers and analysts alike," BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla said.

"I am sure the International Cricket Council will be monitoring the matter in Dubai and take appropriate actions," Shukla said.

Australian batsman Andrew Symonds was caught by S Dhoni off Ishant Sharma when on 30 but to the horror of the Indian team, Bucknor decided he was not out. Symonds went on to score an unbeaten 137 to spearhead a great recovery after the hosts were tottering at 134 for six at one stage.

Symonds was also given another 'life' by Third Umpire Bruce Oxenford who ruled him not out when he was stumped by Dhoni off Anil Kumble a little later.

Earlier, Australian skipper Ricky Ponting too was lucky to escape a caught behind appeal when on 17 before going on to complete a half century. Mark Benson was the umpire who did not uphold the confident appeal.

australian cricket players big cheating foxes,,, shame!!!! shame...

Real Winners are INDIA! by DKS on 07 Jan 2008

I think that the umpiring was disastratous and very poor and india should have won, aussies won because they cheated...which does not count really. We all know who the true winners are - INDIA of course! Aussies have such bad sportsmanship...it has been shown time and time again especially with that Ricky Ponting..who thinks he is clever by manipulating the umpires...however has cricket got to this stage. What should happen is that they should replay the last match again without that Bucknor and Benson present (with new umpires) and see the result then. India have had a raw deal again....shame on you aussies for ruining cricket as a great sport.

Australia's Win by Aakash on 06 Jan 2008

Australia will remain champions on paper ........ they can never match the great west Indies .. Even they win thousands of test matches there team's name will be most disrespected in years to come..they will never be remebered as champions !!

Umpiring by Julian on 06 Jan 2008

Don't blame the umpires, blame the ICC for not allowing greater use of replay technology. It is crazy that I, watching at home, have better evidence of what happened than the umpire who makes the decisions. The human eye is simply not reliable enough and the replays prove this. They are available, so why not use them? The ICC need to show some courage and widen the use of the third umpire.

cricket by vishal on 16 Jan 2008

yea we can blame the umpire because they are the ones to call for the third umpire... and well one of the umpires asked ricky ponting for if clark caught the ball!!! i mean how do u do that... u have technology use it!! that could have been a draw and that is truly dissapointing.

poor umpiring by utk on 03 Jan 2008

Ponting dont think that they are best in the world , all team are with 11 players and australia play with 13 (two umpires favouring them) , there are N no. of incidence where stevebuckonr is match fixer , we lost world cup 2003 because of hime , not because of ponting ( guy with no ethics in game of cricket) why give two chance to tendulkar , give to bhajji only , he will teach them and not compare ponting with tendulkar our batsmen whenever out walk of the field mind it if they are out

umpiring by a k atreya on 03 Jan 2008

How long India has to bear Mr Bucknor? Mr Bucknor saved the last mach of Steave Waugh's carrier during the last Indian visit at the same Sydney.Countless evidance available against the Mr Bucknor specially against India.I don't know why ICC is selecting Mr Bucknor for umpiring in Indinan's series.

UMPIRING by rushi sheth on 03 Jan 2008

Perhaps statisticians should work out how many times Bucknow and Rusi Kertzen have favoured the opposition against the Indian team

Take it to where it really matters! by Mohan on 03 Jan 2008

Well, if you think the umpires were bad, read today's newspapers in Australia: http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,25197,23001459-601,00.htmlIf Indians wish to do something about what happened in Sydney yesterday, they should take their grievance to Australians rather than just blaming BCCI in the Indian media. I urge all of you to email The Australian newspaper which has asked for readers' views on yesterday's umpiring. Here is the link to send your comments:http://blogs.theaustralian.news.com.au/yoursay/index.php/theaustralian/comments/should_heroes_walk_the_walk/Thanks to the internet, today people have the power to influence. Let us take full use of it; otherwise Indians will be dismissed by the world as sentimental fools.

Aussies NOT Cheaters by Jason on 03 Jan 2008

Seems to me the Umpires are taking the wrath for Indias poor performance. Sure there have been a few errors (both in Australia and India's favour), but thats cricket. Perhaps if India played better these conversations would be meaningless.

Aussies are nothing but cheaters! by Daljit on 07 Jan 2008

Jason, ur a complete idiot! India can win Austraila easily as they scored 532 and went passed aussies score. If aussie are so good they should not resort to cheating to win. Let's face it 11 mistakes in a match is too much and I think both umpires should be fined, removed and banned for certain amount of matches. Wonder how much ponting(the donkey!) paid the umpires..ummmmh?! Symonds should have been out the first time everyone knows this. I think you need to open your eyes abit love....get a grip..ur on the wrong side hee hee!

Aussies not Cheaters by Rajesh Kumar on 03 Jan 2008

mate Jason what do you mean by few errors and perhaps if india played better well if thats the case give tendulkar two chances like were given to Symonds then we shall see what aussies will say?

Jason by Srividya on 03 Jan 2008

Dont favour aussies. Aussies is winning only because umpires favouring them. Everytime when key payers get our quickly the umpires will give not out.Because of this strong teams like India Southafrica suffer when paying against auusies.

Buckor- match fixing guy by TT on 03 Jan 2008

India lost 2003 world cup final because of Bucknor and not because aussie played well, Ricky Ponting was clearly out there as well...Bucknor stop taking money, stop killing the cricket

Australian Team by Mishka on 03 Jan 2008

At the moment Indian team is playing against 14 players, 3 of them are in total control, Indian team can not ball to them or bat against them. I have seen this a number of times that visiting team has taken 6 wickets and remaining 4 player play and score 400 score. This happens not because of Australians playing well but the Empires stop looking at the stumps. So whenever there is a nick or stumping chance, or LBW chance. Where as our players are given out when they are not out. Look at the dismisal of Youraj, Dhoni, and Kumbley. Bludy empires could not even let Kumbley play. They felt very threstened that he might get 100 again.I thing India should get out of ICC. Why should we get ripped off when we are the biggest revenue contributer. Bludy Australians are best in their own head. Bludy cheats.

Crazy Ponting by Anand on 03 Jan 2008

It looks crazy to think that this very Ponting tells the opposition Captains to agree to accept the fieldes word for fair catch when he himself and his teammates(except Gilchrist) does not walk when they know they are out. Why should the opposition teams accept the fielders word when you yourself don't respect the spirit of the game. It is high time Ponting stops talking about this.

Advantage of being the Captain by ds on 03 Jan 2008

Advantage of being the Captain of Indian cricket team.Kumble hogged all the end overs so he can suck easy wickets. Shameless guys did not care if they hit him for 4s or 6s, he knew they were easy wickets and umpires will give him easy LBWs because of denying Symonds wicket!!! Surely Kumble won't complain because he got two LBWs to his favour. This is how it all works. Ganguly, lesser said about him the better. Symonds was Not Out to the end.I look at my friends kid and say, maybe a different place could give you better chance for your true worth. Devil has taken over some places

Downright cheats by Right Thinker on 03 Jan 2008

Correction,my friend.Symonds was not out till the end after being out atleast 4 times. Our brave lads have fought valinatly under the circumstances and only down right cheating could save Aussies from the position they were.

Age restriction for umpires by siva on 03 Jan 2008

To me there should be periodic reviews on each umpire, if an umpire gets it wrongs more frequently like Steve Bucknor, he should be banned and also there should be age limitation for umpires.

cric by Bharath on 03 Jan 2008

You're absolutely rite there should be age limit for umpires. (Lets not forget this - human beings bound to make mistakes...

Poor umpiring by Jagannadha Avasarala on 03 Jan 2008

Symonds knew he was out - he did not walk. How lousy is that ? Except for Gilly, even our players ever walk and that may have cost India now.

STEVE BUCKNOR by Capt Narendra on 03 Jan 2008

This is not the first time teve Bucknor has displayed blatant prejusdice against India. If memory serves me right, he had given Sachin wrongly out twice when he was 97 and 99. Hehad even mimicked an Indian bowler appealing for a verdict from him. I cannot understand why Indian authorities cannot be as assertive as the Pakistan Board when they refused to play if the racist Australian umpire was going to preside. The whole issue also brings to the fore the integrity of a batsman. There was a time when the batsman simply walked when they had 'snikced'. Here we have Symonds who shamelessly accepts that he was out, when he should have walked. so much for the Aussie sportsmanship.

Australian Cricket by naren on 03 Jan 2008

Australian Cricket has been abusing the system for a long time now. They sledge the touring team, bribe the umpires and cheat their way to victories. Their 15 test victories should not be considered a great achievement and should be entered into the record books with an asterik. AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS ARE CHEATERS.........

Australian Cricket by chris on 03 Jan 2008

How dare this person naren accuse Australian Cricket of cheating and bribing!! Australians have always played hard but fair and the umpires are from other countries. Some players walk and some wait for the umpires nod in all teams (including India). Also don't forget Ponting was given out LBW to a thick inside edge and yes I know he was given not out to an edge earlier. What goes around, comes around and you should back up your talk with proof.

Australian Cricket by Raj on 03 Jan 2008

Chris, please go back and check the video footings of india's last outing in Australia. You will clearly understand how much Australia cheats through bribing umpires. While there are agencies to track irregularities with players, there are none with match officials. That is where umpires like Bukner are making a living..by favoring australian team.

umpiring decisions by K. George on 03 Jan 2008

Dear Sir It is time all the cricket players return to time honoured gentleman's code of walking when they know they are out. Otherwise people like me will consider players like symonds a cheat and not deserve the century. In fact I am beginning to wonder if there is any honour left in the Australian cricket team.

Bucknor by Manish on 03 Jan 2008

F(d)uck nor looks sick, look at his face ... he looks like old demon he cannot give justice

BCCI Wake up by CricFan on 03 Jan 2008

Stop giving money to outside players or atleast keep it at resonable amount( ref. IPL - which In India one hardly finds any place to play cricket. Most people play street cricket all their lives. Just buy plots for people to play cricket on their own.) instead invest it in Domestic cricket and make it popular. And now show some responsibility and take firm action.

Bucknor making lots of Bucks by Manish on 03 Jan 2008

()uck nor has taken lot of money from Australia

playing agianst 13 by prem on 03 Jan 2008

It was Gilchrist who came out and said that if a batsmen knew for sure he is out, he should walk and when the situation got worse with New Zeland, I beleive it was Ricky Ponting who came to Gilchrist's defense and added that it was the "right" thing to do. Well seems like the Aussies are really true to their word.

More than thirteen by Cogito_ergo... on 03 Jan 2008

Not 13. Add the "Third Umpire" and "March aeferee". There are also people in the background, like those arranging hostel stay, food, travel, etc. in the host country.

BCCI wake up by Cricfan on 03 Jan 2008

It can't go on like this. The team just can't walk off but after watching the replays the Mangement must call the team off ground. It's no fun this way.

Bucknor/Benson - bribed or threatened? by Annu Bhaiya on 02 Jan 2008

As usual Bucknor's decision went wrongfully against India. The least he could have done was to wear hearing aids, if he is deaf. If he isn't deaf, then the question is whether he was bribed or threatened. Even Benson and the 3rd Umpire, whatever his name is, joined Bucknor. Were they also bribed/threatened or are they just weak kneed racists?
