Chennai Annoyed that he could not spend ‘quality time’ with his wife, a software engineer allegedly killed his newborn daughter by throwing her into a 30 ft deep well.

Niranjan Kumar (28), an employee of a Bangalore-based IT firm, was arrested after he threw his four-day-old daughter into a 30 ft deep well last night, police said.

His wife had become pregnant soon after their marriage a year ago and Kumar had tried to persuade her to undergo an abortion, police said.

Kumar returned to Bangalore after leaving his pregnant wife with her parents in Chennai.

After the baby was born four days ago, Kumar, who had come here to see her, was ‘upset’ and threw it into a well in the house late last night, police said.

Techie father kills child by simply61 on 14 Mar 2009

If this is what an educated father with means to raise his girl child does to his new born, what hope is there for impoverished people, mired in old customs and steeped in a anti -girl mind set.Although in this case he killed the child because of non gender reasons but still it is a shocking response from a young educated techie father.

murderer by Nisha on 14 Mar 2009

It seems he had killed his daughter b'coz of female gender. he should severly punished.

There is no indication of if he did because of "girl" child. People shouldn't draw conclusion from this. In fact, while in BITS Pilani he was introvert, top ranking and ideal student which some even call a fruit. This is a case of psychological breakdown and partly his wife, parents are also to blame to not treat him early when he was so adamant to abort the child.

unbelievable!!! by vijay on 14 Mar 2009

the inmates at the jail would love to spend some "quality" time with this piece of human refuse. This story is so shocking and so sad that punishment should be swift and severe and act as a deterrent to the rest.

Shameful by Pawan on 13 Mar 2009

I find this act very shameful. How could a 28 year old young person and that too, an IT committ such a crime? Did he have no previous record of any kind of wrong doings? Did this company ever check him on psycological levels before hiring him for job?I really sit back and realize that there is a complete loss of soul in such people. I hope he is put in jail for murder of a girl child for lifetime.

unbelievable... by vishal on 13 Mar 2009

i just wonder sometimes what kind of sick monsters lurk undetected amongst us. An ordinary guy. Seemingly normal and yet he commits an act that is unthinkable to most normal people.

A PITY by R.Ramachandran on 13 Mar 2009

That means he must have been mulling the thing for the past several months. It is not clear whether he wanted the baby to be aborted because of its gender! It is quite possible. So it does not appear to be simply the lack of quality time with his wife. What a pity, now he would be spending time with the Police!
