According to Ulhasnagar DCP Sanjay Yenpure, the girl, a resident of Tarapur village in 24
North Parganas district in West Bengal, was kidnapped by a man, whom she has identified as Raj—his second name and address is still not known by the police.
He had allegedly drugged her by forcibly making her smell a substance at Dag Bungalow at Savdapuri Bazarpeth in West Bengal in August 2007 after which she fell unconscious. He later sold her to a pimp identified as Raju Shah, a resident of Vitthalwadi, for Rs 36,000.
“Shah had forcibly kept her in a bar in Dombivli where she was forced into prostitution. She stayed there since last August and was was made to pay Rs 12,000 monthly,” said Yenpure.
Over a period of time, she fell ill and was not in a position to give him more money. She wanted to return home.
“At this stage, Shah confined her in a hotel in Ulhasnagar No.3 for a week,” said Yenpure. “The hotel staff would monitor her movements. This morning, she managed to escape through a bathroom window. She approached the staff at a maternity home near the hotel for help.
The staff at the maternity home took her to the police station. The girl is in a state of trauma, and will be handed over to a juvenile remand home or to a shelter run by an NGO. We are likely to arrest Shah in five or six days,” Yenpure added.
