Beijing, April 29: An 18-year-old Chinese student has been sentenced to death for killing a classmate in a love-triangle dispute involving a middle-aged teacher, state media reported on Tuesday.

The boy, Meng Chao, plunged a 30-cm (12-in) knife into his classmate last September at his home in the southwest province of Guizhou, the local government website said.

He was in a "jealous rage" because the two both loved the same woman, a 45-year-old class director at Guiyang No. 6 Middle school, the website said.

"My class director seduced me. She triggered the tragedy," Meng told the court.

His father, shocked at the sentence, said his son would appeal.
