Telecos gross revenue up by 19%

New Delhi The gross revenue of telecom operators increased by 19.21 per cent year-on-year at Rs 49,942.25 crore for the second quarter of the current fiscal, says sector regulator Trai.

Access service providers segment, which includes telecom service providers majors like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL and others, accounted for 73 per cent of the total sector revenue, according Trai's performance indicator report.

National long distance service providers contributed 15.37 per cent, followed by other telecom licence holders at 6.15 per cent and international long distance service providers at 5.43 per cent.

Of the total revenue of telcom operators, Bharti Airtel accounted for Rs 10,077.79 crore, the maximum any operator.

However, compared to the previous quarter, it is a fall of 1.32 per cent.

Vodafone's gross revenue grew 7 per cent on quarterly basis to Rs 7,376.22 crore.

BSNL' revenue stood at 4,691.86 crore, Idea Cellular's at Rs 4,689.73 crore, Reliance Communications at Rs 3,033.88 crore.

New telecom operator Unitech Wireless (Uninor) registered the maximum growth of 20.89 per cent at Rs 651.48 crore. Sistema Shyam at Rs 328.19 crore saw 17.61 per cent growth on quarterly basis.

Gross revenue of telecom operator Videocon declined drastically by 21 per cent in this second quarter at Rs 128.13 crore over the previous quarter.

The total adjusted gross revenue, on which government gains revenue, of the sector stood at Rs 33,460.52 crore.

THe government gained Rs 2,775.73 crore and Rs 1,172 crore as license fee and spectrum charges respectively during the reported quarter.
