Lucknow, October 1 Ten Indian Institute of Management (IIM) alumni from Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Kolkata have united for a single cause — making the Indian youth “employable”.

Calling it their “corporate social responsibility”, they envision making over 10,000 Indians employable by 2010.

Conceptualised by Nishant Saxena, an IIM Lucknow pass-out, the group launched their first institute 'Elements Akademia' in the city today.

Cabinet Minister Satish Chandra Mishra, present at the launch, called upon the IIM alumni to generate employment in the state. “Channelise all your energy as well as what you have learned in India and abroad to eradicate unemployment from the state.”

Saxena, who is from Allahabad, said they had deliberately selected their homeland as their “karma bhumi”. "Most students lack basic communication skills like pronunciation, vocabulary, etc, as well as managerial skills. Teachers today are teaching what they know but often neglect what the industry wants. We plan to bridge this gap by conducting surveys on industry requirements and then training youth to meet those. There are enough jobs and people in the market; our target is to bring them together."

Admission is open to graduates of any stream, who will have to clear a written examination first. The first programme launched today is a six-month course in Business Communications.

The academy has tied with KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research as their academic partner and Genpact as a corporate partner. “We charge Rs 15,000 for the six-month course. Part of the fee (around Rs 10,000) will be reimbursed by our corporate partner,” added Saxena.
