Kolkata, June 8 Peace remains elusive for the trouble-torn Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU) at Shibpur in Howrah district. Thisn time a group of students ransacked the union room of the university on Sunday.

BESU students’ union run by Independents Consolidation (IC) alleged that students owing allegiance to CPM-backed Students Federation of India (SFI) were behind the act.

“The SFI students had a farewell party at the Wolfendan hostel. They were celebrating till late night and even the security guards watched the students break into the students’ union room,” alleged Shyamasis Das, the spokesperson of BESU students union.

The union has decided to officially register a complaint with the authorities on Monday.

Also, the authorities of the university claimed that instead of 25 policemen who regularly guard the campus there was only one policeman in the university yesterday.

“We have received information about the incident and have asked police to investigate the matter,” said Biman Bandopadhyay, the registrar of the BESU.
