'Terrorism from Pak is a threat to the whole region'

Miliband gilani

Islamabad Stepping up pressure on Pakistan, Britain on Friday asked it to go "farther and faster" in taking action against those involved in the Mumbai attacks and root out terrorist infrastructure within the country.

"The whole international community wants Pakistan to go farther and go faster," British Foreign Secretary David Miliband told a press conference here after meetings with Pakistani leaders including Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Miliband, who travelled to Pakistan after a visit to India, advocated a two-pronged approach comprising the prosecution of the people detained and "putting out of business" the terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan that can be used to launch further attacks outside the country.

"I want the Pakistan government to take action because British people have been hurt... because terrorism from Pakistan is a threat to the stability of the whole region," he said.

"It is vital that the detentions are turned into prosecution with charges, and if found guilty, for the persons to be punished," Miliband said, adding Pakistan must "rebuff" attempts for its soil to be used as a launching pad for attacks like those in Mumbai.

In the long term, Pakistan must use a combination of economic, political and security measures to root out terrorist infrastructure. For this, the country would need the support of the world community through steps such as the provision of financial aid by the International Monetary Fund and Friends of Pakistan, he said.

Miliband said it was "very clear" that the Mumbai attacks were carried out by the outlawed Lashker-e-Taiba group and had originated in Pakistan. "The terrorism which struck in Mumbai is the greatest threat faces Pakistan," he warned.

SOBER ADVICE , NOT MATTER TO PAKISTAN by sarbjit singh on 18 Jan 2009

mr.miliband is very much clear in his view regarding farther and faster action against the militant groups supposed to be taken by pakistan govt. but it is strange enough who will take the action when there is three different govt are being managed by three people namely, president, prime minister and isi. who will take action against terrorits? it is to be answered.

Pakistan, the hot-bed of terrorism by suri on 17 Jan 2009

Miliband's concern seems to be only for British nationals and not for any of the other nationals who were also killled by the terrorists on 26/11. He went on to make an attrocious statement that Kashmir was the root cause of militancy in the region. Kashmir was just an excuse for the Pakistanis to spread their hatred against all other religions.

Pakistani government has killed hundreds of Islamic terrorist members of Taleban/Alqaeda. But, Indian government has not even arrested any one terrorist among the hundreds of thousands of Hindu terrorists who have destroyed the lives and properties of innocent Muslims and Christians. The hands of many of the ministers of Gujarat and Maharashtra are stained with the blood of innocent Muslims. These Hindu terrorists have been launching bomb blasts and attacks in various places of India for the past many years with the aim of turning the Hindu majority against Muslims and prompting them to vote for BJP. Before each general election, these Hindu terrorists launch terrorism dramas ensuring BJP's victory at the expense of innocent Muslims. Indian government has to first clean its house before requiring Pakistan to suppress terrorists.

rooting of terrorism. by santosh.s on 17 Jan 2009

Any attempt to give financial help to Pakistan by IMF or socalled friends of Pakistan will frustrate all ettempts to rein in the terrorism which will further get a boost with easy money pumped in Pakistan. It is like asking the donkey to guard a bag of corn.

Heis Bad when says solve kasmir issue, he is good when he says something we like by Ravi on 17 Jan 2009

When he says solve Kashmir issue then he is bad and when he says something we like he is good. They can't do anything with Pakistan like we.Only by solving Kashmir issue by the will of people of Kashmir the region can be peaceful and prosperous.[Even both country have to swallow some bitter realities]

David Milliband by Srini on 17 Jan 2009

David Milliband is behaving like a loose cannon who has been given a task that exceed his capability. His diplomatic skills and knowledge of intricate history of the Indian subcontinent is poor. He is young and also inexperienced. He will lose credibility if he continues to play politics and tries to bat for both sides.

Davis Miliband by Narain on 17 Jan 2009

It uis al;leged that there is a strong pro-Pak lobby in the British foreign Office that advises it's Foreign Secretaries to make recent silly pro Pak remarks. Young David Miliband has recd, dodgy adivice from it's Foreign Office advisers.some say Miliband is not up to the job.I think Milibasnd has lost hundred of British Indian votes.I will not vote for the Labour party.Gohar Mia is talking rubbish. We ,the Kaffir/ non Muslims know that if fanaticism is removed from Islam, then Islam will disappear from the face of the earth.Islam

Hindu bigotry and fascism by M.A.Ayub Gohar on 17 Jan 2009

Mr.Narain, fanaticism is not limited to Islam alone. Fanaticism is inherent in Hinduism also like Jewism and Christianity. Slaughtering Muslim and Christians and raping Muslim and Christian women is one of the principles of present-day Hinduism;your co-religionists have demonstrated the same in Gujarat and Orissa. Is that not Hindu fanaticism? Before 1947, you Hindus were not practising your fanaticsm not because of your religion's tolerance but only because you were weak then. Now, the Hindu police forces are with you and you are powerful against the unarmed Muslims and Christians and you subject them to Hindu fanaticism.Hindu Nazism will definitely meet the same fate of Nazis.

Fanatics by Swapan Chakravarthy on 04 Feb 2009

Hindusim is a way of life and not a religion. We do not have a prophet! We believe that the trio of Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesh are the founders of Universe!

Incompetence in ruling the great country by Suresh on 17 Jan 2009

India should no longer expect some body else to help to save itself but rely on its own strength. Don't forget Britishers ruled India for quite a long period and it were these very people who affected breaking of India into two parts. Their intention was never worthy of reliance in the past and can not be expected to be fair in future as Britain knows better than India how to protect their own interests. Learn from our history for example Prithvi Raj Chauhan who spared many times the muslim invaders and eventually was arrested by those whom he forgave. Then recall Shivaji who taught how to deal with looters, cheaters and invaders.by his own action. Our contemporary leaders are putting this great country to shame what to talk of glorifying our national reputation.India needs to be led by leaders who have roots in indian culture and tradition but these so called leaders are always looking western world for any small thing.

Terrorism by M.A.Ayub Gohar on 17 Jan 2009

There will not be an iota of Islamic terrorism in India if the Indian government: 1) creates a secular police force which will suppress any communal riots within hours and will punish the rioters irrespective of their religion or caste 2)formulates a secular policy to be implemented in Kashmir and creates a Muslim regiment like Sikh regiment and deploys it in Kashmir to suppress the rebellion of Kashmiri freedom fighters. Now Hindu fascist RSS agenda is implemented in that valley by deploying non-Kahmiri Hindu fanatic soldiers displaying their religious identity by smearing vermillion on their foreheads and tying red yarn bands on their wrists and they rape Muslim women and kill Muslim men regularly, giving a chance for Islamic fundamentalists to treat it a Hindu against Muslim issue. If a Muslim regiment is deployed there, Kashmir insurgency will lose a 'Jehadi' appeal. Once the rebellion is suppressed, this regiment can be deployed in Indo-Chinese border to confront the Chinese .

how to define terrorism by sarbjit singh on 18 Jan 2009

mr.gohar i appeciate your views and sentiments, atleast i found one among the millions who is having rightous

Agreed Ayub by Ravi on 17 Jan 2009

Agreed Ayub but why do wee always confront with our neighbours. We have bad realtion with nearly every neighbours.Look china they have more then 2 and half times number of neigbour with compare with us.But they have good relation with neary all neigbours. They have become the third largest Economy of the world in last 10 years and in 2 years time they will be second largest. Why don we solve the issue of Kashmir with Pakistan. Why not let kashmiri people decide there own fate.

Terrorism by CHM Unni on 17 Jan 2009

Yes, in that case body bags of Muslim soldiers also will start reaching their villages in India and Indian Muslims will feel the impact of Kashmiri terrorism in their own houses;now most of our soldiers who die fighting Kashmiri terrorists are Hindus and Indian Muslims also have the responsibility to fight and die for preserving the soveregnty of their country.

Terrorism by Vaid S C K on 17 Jan 2009

Dear friend, you need to understand the psychee behind acts of terrorism. Beieve it or not, Hinduism is most broad minded religion in the world. No fatwa is issued under this. Kashmir problem is firstly due to thirst for leadership in Separitist group and secondly vested interest of Pak. Once peace prvails, Kashmiris would reap fruits in the form of access to education, medical facilities, tourism etc. Please use your influence in right way instead of spreading hatered amongst communities.

Sikhs are patriots by Kedar on 17 Jan 2009

You seem to contradict yourself by first calling for a secular police force and then asking to create a Muslim regiment. The reason this cannot happen is because most Muslims are brought up to believe that their duty to the Islamic Ummah is above that of the country they are born in AND that their loyalty is to Muslims rather than their compatriots. The cause of terrorism in India lies squarely with Pakistan and its policy of low level insurgency – a thousand cuts and so on.

Who are you to advice India to do such things? We know very well what rules should be implemented in those regions. No more mercy attitude towards terrorists. How Indian express allowing these kind of people to use its colomn? Go away and do your own business.

Paki Preaching Scriptures! by A Goswaminandan on 17 Jan 2009

Pure Paki dissimulation, given the fact that the official Islamist policy has ensured decimation of minority populations in Islamic countries like Pakistan. This is in the nature of the Devil quoting scriptures. Pakistan is less than a hair's breadth away from the precipice. Its adovacates had better preach humanism to the jihadis in its midst! We will take care of our own, no thanks to you. Don't miss the bangles sent by the Jama Masjid and Indian Muslims to your leaders last week. You can't fool people all the time, you know! Clean up your act fast!!!

Terrorism by M.A.Ayub Gohar on 17 Jan 2009

Goswaminandan sees everything through the prism of Hindu fascism/terrorism advocated by fascists of Sarvarkar's ilk. Can you give the name of any Islamic country which has annihilated non-Muslim minorities, mainly Hindus? The Christian minority is safe in Muslim Egypt,Hindu,Chinese and Christian minorities in Malaysia,Indonesia, Jews in Turkey and Morocco. When the Christian Kings were persecuting Jews in their countries, they were safely living in the then Muslim Spain and other Islamic countries. Even the Hindus and Sikhs of Pakistan are safer there than the Muslims in India.Four million Hindus are still living in Pakistan.Have you ever heard of Hindus massacred in Pakistan like Modi did in Gujarat? As per Islamic principles, it is the duty of the rulers to protect the minorities. If savages among Muslim rulers do otherwise,Islam is not responsible.Islam also requires its followers to be loyal to their rulers.

MAAyubGoharVictim of Paki Propaganda by A Goswaminandan on 17 Jan 2009

Many things are reported in the free press that Gohar seems unaware of. Comparing Pakistan with Turkey, Indonesia or Malaysia is worth a laugh -- these are not Mullah-dominated jihadi societies. They are developed states following secular norms and obeying laws in a civilised manner. Gohar obviously supports the expanding Taliban rule in Pakistan, like in Swat where they are ready shoot schoolgirls now! You are not even aware of the freedoms enjoyed by all in Indian society. Pakistan is not a patch on free India, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. India is not just a military society of and for the generals and their tykes!!!

Who is Minority? by Rajan Sharma on 17 Jan 2009

Ayub, you do have good list of facts, but incomplete. First, you will not find many indian muslims trying for Military profession (for whatever reason). The Sikh regiment is an old one, much before the independence and they have always proved them, whereas there was no seprate muslim regiment. Reason -- because all our muslim brothers in India and Pakistan were hindus earlier. They converted because they were forced. Third, the socalled minority Muslim community in India has grown from 6 million to 35 million after division, whereas, the hindu community in Pakistan has shrunk from 6 million to 4 million. Do I have to tell you where the others are gone ?? Four, the countries you named, has very strict laws and that's why the muslim community behave there.Your suggestions are good, but not applicable here. Thanks anyways.

Terrorism by Vaid S C K on 17 Jan 2009

There is urgent need to translate action on ground. UK, USA and other countries advancing financial help to Pak must make it a condition that unless there is satisfactory proof of dismantling terrorists infra-structure, no new aid shall be provided. Such a condition is good for Pak as well as for all other nations.

Terrorism by Narinder Grover on 17 Jan 2009

All foreign dignitaries visiting Pakistan fo mske it a point to hold meetings with their president, PM, Foreign Minister as well as and perhaps, most importantly, the Army Chief of Pakistan. It does not happen when they visit India or many other democratic countries. From the reports published in the media, some visiting leaders actually meet with the Army Chief before having meetings with other (less relevant) leaders of Pakistan. This is perhaps a sure sign of who is actually running that country. I had heard that every country has an army, but in Pakistan, the army has a country. To remain relevant and to maintain their previleged status in Pakistan, they need to keep doing mischiefs against India so they can keep claiming a major share of that country's budget and the poor people do not protest their extravagant practices.

Failure policies of US, West by Murtuza Moosavi on 17 Jan 2009

Mr. Milband this is the result of your failure policies toward war on terror. India, Ira, Iraq and Afghanistan had to suffer for years. Now you are all waring and issuing stupid statements? Who form the Taliban? Who formed AlQiada? This is the blessing of US, West And Zionist Israel. Jai Hind..

jihad in pak by choice and not by default by virender yadav on 17 Jan 2009

Pak will never understand this kind of language, it has developed and nurtured jihadi outfits by design and not by mistake. It wants to achieve its state objectives through jihadis element. Though soon it will itself be consumed by the jihadis. Pak can be rest assured that in short time it will be a mirror image of Afganistan if their govt and military policies don't change. Current Afganistan situation is due to number of factors including external but in Pak it is through design. Well all educated people including politicians and army generals in pak must see their future in what is happening in SWAT these days. This is only begining lot more is in the offing. GOOD LUCK TO PEOPLE OF PAK, EDUCATED MUST READ THEIR FUTURE IN ADVANCE.

Milibrand by Swapan Chakravarthy on 17 Jan 2009

The failure of both the PM and EAM in handling Milibrand shows the poor shape of our authority. If reports are correct there is a diplomatic approach to asking Milibrand to shut up and that is: put him on an Indian Air Force jet and parachute hin down across the LOC to taste what terror means. Time is when we spoke tough to US (specifically Hillary Clinton) to tell them hands off Kashmir and you deliver what you want. US and Britain have been harbouring terrorists for over 60-years. Their phrase: one man's terrorist is another man's fredom fighter (Collin Powerll) should not ne forgotten and forgiven. And crossing LOC does not need authorisation. We need to have all the people named as wanted handed over. That is in effect the force of nature. It is time we historically accepted the 2002 decision to move Indian Forces for attacking Pakistan as a step that made Musharaff renege on the K-word. History is an unfaothful mistress!

Why r u afraid by Akram on 17 Jan 2009

Why r u afraid.IF you believe that kashmiris like you then let the plebescite happened. In real you know that like on partition where ever given choices to muslims majoprity areas they spit on your faces and join Pakistan. The incidents like Babri mosque and gujarat massacre also strengthened our case.Either solve Kashmir issue by kasmiri people will or keep paying for your occupation.U can't do anything with Pakistan.Even when Pakistan Enter the Kargil your Govt not able to have any courage to cross Pakistani border.[There were two planes cross during that among which one was forced to return and one was down by Pakistani forces.]

Why should we be afraid? by Swapan Chakravarthy on 04 Feb 2009

Plebiscite of Kashmir was for the entire Kashmir to be carried out under Indian supervision. In 1949 Pakistan reneged from handing over India's right to do so. There is a United Nations resolution condemning Pak which evetyone forgets to recall.

Why r u afraid by Indian on 19 Jan 2009

Get real Akram What crap are you talking about ?It is the Paki Trecherous heathenwho shoyuld vacate from Paki Trecherous Heathen Occupied Kashmir. If Indiadecides to use itsfull resources that the day is not far off when Paki Trecherous Heathen country will break up into several pieces, each will a tiny piece of land that they call their own. Perhaps we should give a small push to the Pakis to break up. If there is any plebicite then it should be todetermine whether the Trecherous Kashmiris should continue to live in Jammu and Kashmir or go to Paki Trecherous Heathen country. Kashmir belongs to me and the other 100 crore Indians we have only allowed the Trecherous Kashmiris to live there as they have no other place togo to. Why r u afraid to give the Trecherous Kashmiris land to live in your country ?
