New Delhi, March 5: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said he was seeking legal opinion before taking action against Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray in the wake of his comments against Biharis and North Indian MPs.

"If any editorial hurts the sentiments of other people, it can break the law and order situation," Deshmukh said after meeting Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

He said a legal opinion needed to be taken on the whole issue as without determining the section under which action was to be taken, nothing can be done.

In an editorial in party mouthpiece Samna on Wednesday, Thackeray targeted Biharis saying they were an ‘unwanted lot’ in all parts of the country.

"They are not wanted in Southern India, Assam and also Punjab and Chandigarh. The Biharis have antagonised local population wherever they had settled. The UP-Bihari MPs have shown their ingratitude towards Mumbai and Maharashtra with an anti-Marathi tirade in Parliament," the editorial said.
