On the table were none of Roberts’s good pals, but a mixed bag of who the author thought Madonna would like to meet. So there was actor John Abraham (search me why), designer Priya Kataria Puri (who again?), Raja and Queenie Dhody (the best reps of Mumbai’s swish set, according to many), musician Tino Francorzi and wife Judith, couple about town Deveika and Suresh Bhojwani and the restaurant’s cherubic owner Riyaaz Amlani.

We’re told that the lady, a vegetarian, had asparagus soup and spinach and ricotta ravioli with her Bechamel Bordeaux. She was “warm, polite and mellow”, and chatted about spirituality.

We’re also informed the real star of the evening was her husband, who was funny, inquisitive and a great conversationalist.
