Shopping Spree
We caught up with Anjanna Soni, the petite, 27-year-old managing director of the latest multi-designer boutique in town, Mai, browsing through the stalls at the fashion week. Soni, who was running a school in Rajasthan till last year, decided to take a plunge into fashion after she got together with good friend and designer Khushali Kumar. “My family is into textile exports, so I know people and have a hang of the business. Khushali and I both thought this was the right time for us to branch out, so here we are,” smiled Soni. She has already decided to pick up ensembles by newcomers Azara and Ekru, and veteran accessory designer Meera Mahadevia, and is scouting around for fresh designers.

Food For Thought
The flamboyant owner of Olive, the dapper AD Singh, has been busy trying out various ensembles that have caught his fancy at the Fashion Week. We spotted him in a bright-red Hemant Lecoanet jacket with a line embossed in bright gold, Love Ya Hate. Singh has a penchant for Rohit Bal’s jackets but his experimental taste extends to casual linen pants, white shoes and, occasionally, blood-red jeans. While everybody else was lining up for the delicious Norwegian salmon with munier sauce and lemon mascarpone at Olive at the Week, we caught Singh queueing up for a cup of Costa Coffee’s frescatto. “I was actually trying to go and watch Tarun’s show, but it’s getting so delayed that I thought I would catch a cuppa,” he smiled. Well, everyone can do with a change of taste.

Game On
You have to hand it to designer JJ Valaya. All set to launch his luxury, ready-to-wear label Valaya Base at the Week today, the designer has come up with a new business strategy. He has devised a game along the lines of Monopoly, based on his brands and with a signature currency too. The collection, Paisa, too has the same quirky feel.
