Twenty-nine-year-old Narinder alias Gola from Jhajjar, Haryana killed Kumar of Delhi on September 5 at a Food Corporation of India godown in the Agra Cantonment Railway Station. His partners in crime were Ashok, Nanhey and Bholu.
He told officers he had got supari of Rs 5 lakh from a woman named Prem of Bahadurgarh with whom the victim had an affair.
The victim Naveen was the state champion from Delhi for four times. He got a job with the railways in the sports quota and had been posted in Agra since 2006.
He had also won several medals in the nationals and state championships for the Railways and was preparing himself for the national championship to be held in December this year.
Deputy Police Commissioner, Crime and Railways, Madhup Tewari told Newsline: “Gola and his team got Rs 1 lakh as advance for the murder. They visited Agra several times to familiarise themselves with Naveen’s routine.
“On September 5, when Naveen was on his way to office, they pulled him off his motorcycle and beat him with sticks. The victim was then shot dead with a .315-bore country pistol.”
On Tuesday, Gola came to the Civil Line Metro station to attend a prior meeting when he was caught by the police.
When the police confronted him, Gola first said he was a conductor for a Blueline bus but later admitted to his real identity.
Gola, once a state-level wrestler, has been running a Blueline bus on route 764 (Najafgarh to Nehru Place) for the last three years. Tewari said Gola had taken the bus on contract.
Gola was once arrested in 2005 in an abduction and murder case — he was charged with kidnapping one Sunil from Bahadurgarh. Sunil was found murdered in Rohtak. The Agra police have been informed about his arrest.
