Lucknow, November 12: Attributing the party's decline in Uttar Pradesh to organisational weakness and its failure to attract the youth, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi candidly admitted that the challenge before the Congress lies within and not in any other political party.

"Our organisation in UP is weak... We have not been able to attract youth to our fold," he told reporters after taking part in the state coordination committee meeting at UPCC headquarters.

"I don't consider any other political party as a challenge before us... It is within us... Our opposition is our inability to represent people and connect with them," he said in a candid admission of the state of affairs of the Congress in the state.

"The rest of the political parties are not our opposition," he said adding "we have to focus on how to connect with the poor... The common people and take up their issues".

On being asked to elaborate on the organizational weaknesses, he said the problems concerned record keeping, accountability and admission details.

Gandhi emphasised the need to attract the youth to the party fold.

When asked whether he considers BSP as the main opposition to the congress, Gandhi said "I am not worried about BSP. To me there is only one fundamental and that is to take up the issues of the people".

Stating that he did not believe in vote bank politics, Gandhi said he felt that every talented youth should have the opportunity to enter political parties.
