Was all the safety equipment present in the industrial estate?
There might be safety devices, but the explosion was so sudden that people did not think of using it. Everyone just ran and they were all thinking of escaping. But the escape routes, the balcony and windows were enclosed with grills. People suffocated in the common passageway and staircases, we saved around 32 people from here and another eight who were trying to jump from windows. However, some also died from suffocation while jumping out.
How many people are missing ?
Many units had lofts inside them and there are chances of people being there. At some places, slabs have collapsed and there is a possibility of people being stuck there. We are still looking for them.
What will be the course of action now ?
We give licences for storing chemicals and LPG gas at industrial estates, but if we find that there was any violation like excessive stock of chemicals or cylinders kept upside down, we will take strict action. We will revoke licences if necessary. Also, there will be a survey of all industrial estates and action will be taken wherever the escape routes are enclosed.
