There will never be another Sachin: Murali

Sachin Tendulkar

Ahmedabad "I read in the newspapers somewhere recently that a boy in Mumbai scored 400-odd runs. The papers said he's going to be the next Sachin. How can anyone say that?" an incredulous Sri Lankan spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan asks as the Indian master batsman completed 20 years of international cricket today.

"There will never be another Sachin," Muralitharan says, paying tribute to the champion batsman with whom he has played against a lot of times during their long international career. The world's highest wicket-taker said you get to see one Tendulkar in a life time.

"In the next hundred years you will not witness another Tendulkar. He is once in a century player," he said.

"He can make runs even when he is 44 years old because his technique is so good. It is this combination of technique and temperament that has made Tendulkar such a great cricketer," said Muralitharan, who has a record of 783 scalps in Test and 512 in ODIs.

Muralitharan said he doesn't have anything new to say about the master-blaster and for him it has been a privilege just to play against him.

"What can I say that has never been said about him before? It's a privilege for those who have played during his (Sachin's) time and so got associated with him. Personally, for me, bowling to him has been a privilege," Muralitharan said.

The Sri Lankan vice captain described Tendulkar and former West Indies skipper Brain Lara as legends of the game but considered the little master as the special one.

"Sachin is more special than anybody else," he said. "I just don't understand it when you all (pointing fingers at the media) describe just about anybody as the next Sachin.

"There'll never be another!" he added. Asked about his favourite Tendulkar innings, the off-spinner struggled to pin-point one and said it is always a pleasure to watch the master batsman.

"That double century in Melbourne? The one in Chennai? His century in Perth? It's tough," he said.

"Why pick favourites? There's hardly a better sight than watching him in full flow," he added.

Lets only admire sachin by chetan on 16 Nov 2009

Sachin Tendulkar is a great inspiration for many fans..No common person has a right to comment on his negative performances..every player goes through this and is a part of the game.Lets only admire him and learn the right approach towards the life as he(sachin) has always done.I hope every single fan would like to appreciate his Wins rather than comenting on his failures.A great player can never lose anything.HE IS GOD.

There will never be any Sachin - Murali by Prasad on 15 Nov 2009

He scored 42 centuries while scoring only 16 of them match-winning. Shockingly one century came out of his bat while chasing in second innings. People who understands little cricket knows very well what does it mean by chasing the runs. Pointing and Inzamam have 68% and 60% of winning centuries. Inzamam scored 18 winning centuries, 6 of them in second innings out 25. Pointing's record is more promising. He scored 68% of his match-winning innings in his captaincy only. That is a double acheivement. Our great Tendulker's average is only 30%. Google it. This is not a rocket science. Muralitharan for example has won many matches for his team. How do you define a cricketer. With discipline only? Non-sense. As if India has 100 thousand (world record) missiles produced by Kalam, but at the time of war, those missiles cannont fire. The greatness of the batsmen should be measured to bring glory to the country under pressure.

To Mr prasad by chetan on 16 Nov 2009

Mr Prasad, before comenting this you should have gone through google.India has won 32 times when sachin has scored a century.Better dont comment on such a great player or keep you approach right.

HI...!!SACHIN CONGRATULATIONS SACHIN FOR COMPLETING 20YEARS OF CRICKET.IT IS SAID BY A GOOD MAN THAT,"PRATICE PRATICE MAKES THE MAN PERFECT."YOU ARE THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THIS.YOU WERE CRICKETER YOU ARE CRICKETER YOU WILL BE CRICKETER.I AGREE THERE WILL BE NO OTHER SACHIN LIKE SACHIN RAMESH TENDULKAR.

there will be far more better players than him by digil8pm on 15 Nov 2009

Of course, there won%u2019t be another Sachin in the future. Sachin was a good cricketer. But the day we started praising him, he stopped playing well. When he went back with no runs we kept our mouth shut as if we didn%u2019t see it. Some times when jack fruit falls, a rabbit will die. Sachin%u2019s centuries came like the death of these rabbits and we carried those rabbit stories with grate vanity till another rabbit die. Media will call him Maestro, God of cricket, savior, sun rise, moon light etc if he takes a couple of runs by totally ignoring all other players. Too much of appreciation can destroy a person and hold him from further growing. Sachin would have done better if we were keeping our mouth shut. Now I read a cricket expert%u2019s opinion "there won%u2019t be another sachin in the future". I agree with him. When science totally rejected the chances of rebirths and all experiment regarding cloning on humans are legally prevented how any one can take rebirth and do a repetition of his same life?

There will never be another Sachin? by Ray on 15 Nov 2009

"Bullshit". With due respects to Sachin, there will be, and come and go, a million in one talented players like Sachin. You know, when Carl Lewis first boke the world record, it was said there will never be another man who can beat his record. What happened now? Come-on man, Murally, are living in a cocoon? I agree Sachin is a super batsman, but definitely not a superman.

Hi by chetan on 16 Nov 2009

I guess you must have commented this just to take attention of the viewers, but i am sure you are not a mature cricket watcher.actually i wouldnt have bothered to reply for this but ....and thanks for introducin Carl Lewis ,i frankly dint knew this person.
