The Third Front, an amalgamation of CPI, CPI-M, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Telugu Desam, AIADMK, Forward Bloc and RSP, besides founding member JDS, is likely to take shape in this BJP-ruled state which has seen many a watershed in the country's political history since the formation of non-Congress government at centre in 1988.
Gowda had claimed on Tuesday that BJD led by Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, which had broken ties with BJP, had agreed to join the Front. But BJD had made it clear that it had not made up its mind on the issue.
The JDS chief, who is playing a key role in cobbling up the third front, had said on Tuesday that BJD would not take part in the rally.
Another major absence is likely to be that of AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa. Party sources said she would depute AIADMK parliamentary party leader V Maitheriyan to attend the rally on her behalf but did not cite any reason for staying away.
To ensure that the event did not suffer from any shortcomings, Gowda himself has been supervising the arrangements.
JDS Spokesman Y S V Datta claimed that there could be a ‘surprise’ on Thursday as BSP led by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati was expected to depute her Representative.
"All the leaders would meet tomorrow morning to chart out the convention agenda and resolutions to be passed", Datta said but did not indicate the issues on which resolutions were expected.
The rally is expected to give a personal boost to Deve Gowda who was cold shouldered by the left parties after his son H D Kumaraswamy joined hands with BJP to form a coalition government with BJP in Karnataka in 2006.
The main rivals of the Front, Congress and BJP, however, said the new alliance would hardly make any difference during the coming general elections.

Take the chaff from the wheat, pulse, rice
I agree with Kuriakose that all these opportunist are now trying to play on people emotions and they have no sense of national integration or national interest in mind. a very selfish bunch of people. In fact any party with less than 50 seats ( less than 10%) in Parliament should be disqualified. I only hope that people are smart enough to see the past deeds of these very people and make a good informed choice.
fronts should have cear common manifesto in their front before elections and not power mongers with a bunch of illogical cash and kind rewards to the innocent poor voters to ditch them after elections
Throw all these opportunists to the Arabian sea and bay of Bengal to save India. The country should have only one "front". The front face of truth and Justice, It will be a big mistake Indians will commit if Manmohan Singh is not given a chance to rule for another term in this critically, economically sick worldand when India's moral fabric is damaged by the RSS VHP Bajrang Dal sins
O dear KuriaThe opprtunists ae your friends-third rate frontoos.RSS is trying to save this land from people like you.
Kuriakose should understand that Country's moral fabric is damaged by the missionaries trying to convert maximum people not knowing conversion affects relationships and also some elements praising Islamic countries for suppressing minorities and expecting more than the majority in India.
The likes of Krishnan does not understand economy. they understand only hinduism, Islam, critianity divide. But its good that these people are in minority in India, like the BJP.
Sorry Mr Prashant you don't understand economy either. MMS gov. riding the momentum provided to economy by NDA could provide growth rate for the past few years. Look at the economy now, we are not in a position to kickstart the economy because of crores of rupees wasted in false propoganda. The new gov. will be in huge debt and the citizens will bear the burden of congress prpoganda. If this money would have been well utilised we would have been far isolated from this economic crisis. This reactive educated couple of MMS and PC are good for parliamentry debates only.
Deve Gowda personifies the 3rd front, opportunistic, corrupt and casteist! Does Naveen Patnaik wants to join this rump? This is the conspiracy of CPM/CPI to rule India with 30-35 MPs! Whst is the common agenda apart from public loot? Basically this serves as a parking for opportunistic parties to rest until they take UPA or NDA path! How long people of India be fooled by these opportunistic, unprincipled selfish bunch?
After the election these party will sell themself to either BJP or Congress and have lots of money
3rd front will evade its proponents Devgaudas and his likes akin to a neutrino, considered a component of dark matter.Like dark enrgy it will search its definition and reference.Wishful thining as it is for THe Carats and his ilks.chamleons are many in Indin politics.Good luck.Mr.Devgauda.
