Third front is like a 'parking lot': Venkaiah Naidu

Bangalore Terming the Third Front as a "parking lot" and a "mirage", the BJP today claimed that the Lok Sabha electoral battle is basically between the NDA headed by it and Congress-led UPA.

Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said here some political parties want to use the (Third Front) platform as a "parking lot".

"It's like in a city, people park their vehicle, and after their work, they take it away. That's (Third Front) only a permanent place for parking," the former BJP President told reporters after the party opened its election office in Bangalore, marking starting of poll campaign in Karnataka.

Naidu said the elections are going to be basically between NDA and UPA. "Third Front is a mirage and it has no credibility and no acceptability".

"Third Front has no leader, no agenda, no alliance...no seat-sharing…how can anybody call it a Third Front?"

The BJP leader recalled Third Front "experience" and "history" and pointed to National Front and United Front governments in the past.

He noted that SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav once was Chairman of the grouping, and later it projected Mayawati as leader, while AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa had recently "indicated that she is ready to join hands with the Congress".

Naidu noted that former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda's JDS had formed a government in Karnataka in association with the Congress, and thereafter with the BJP, and now this party is in the Third Front. "Where is the consistency?” he asked.

The BJP leader said the Left parties are not "reliable and credible". Whenever there is a "problem", the left parties, who are always known for "blind antipathy" towards BJP, would extend their support to the Congress, he claimed.

"Can these parties assure the people that they will not go with the Congress", Naidu wanted to know. To a question, he agreed that the presence of the Third Front would benefit the BJP electorally, saying "there is no doubt about it".

Jokers of Indian politics by Rags on 17 Mar 2009

No.. If we think of Indian elections as Indian movies, then third front is the joker/comedian. They come up in between a serious scene and then disappear. Just an unwanted irritant. At the end of the movie, they will be on the side of the hero or the heroine or will totally disappear. Here also, either they will be with the NDA or UPA or will totally disappear after the elections. Till then Njoy the comedy:)-

Truest Statement by Gaga gamer on 15 Mar 2009

Absolutely correct statement. This is nothing but a parking lot where all this Aaya Ram Gaya Ram parties park till they think they have an alliance, only to come back here after being "fired" from that party, and again waiting to be "adopted" by another party. And for anyone voting for such parking places, they will get the same kind of government - temporary.

The third front by SHREERAM PARANJPE on 15 Mar 2009

Sir, The third front is non-cohesive group of opportunistic parties who have no clear policies, programmes and agenda. They want to grab power by hook or crook. The leftists are unreliable. All other parties are regional with great ambition. They have failed before and they will falil again. To vote for them is wasting your vote. SHREERAM PARANJPE

No Wonder even BJP is in the same Boat!!!!! by George Varghese on 15 Mar 2009

BJP is also finding themselves in a parking lot under the banner of NDA; for political survivability they are striking deals with regional parties and on the other hand they are showing a brave face that it is a pure Hinduvathva Party. Now their Coalition Dream will end-up to meager Bihar and few other states as their big partner Biju JD

Third Fron is a Parking lot by Wasoo Kamulkar on 15 Mar 2009

Thomas and his co-religionists need not worry. Hindus are the only tolerant people on the globe. Their accommodative nature - not cowardice - led them to slavery in the past. Instead of erecting psychological 'MODI' boggies around himself he should read more of the Hindu philosophy. No need for conversion. "SAHANAWAWATU, SAHANOUBHUNAKTU; SAHAWEERYAM KARAWAWAHAI", declared their rishies at the time when the rest of the humanity was just emerging out of the caves. Let's join together, observe individual religions and lead India into victory. Once we believe that all religions are man-made not devine ; it will be easier for all to co-exist peacefully.

third front by yohan on 15 Mar 2009

why congress and bjp are scared of this third front. sure they fear that some of their parnters will join them, like bjd, bsp, etc. hope this will materialize as we are looking for a change. however, with many aspirants for pm post, it seems a distant dream. a constitution for third front should be made to ensure that the largest party gets the pm position and second largest party dy pm post and those who can agree on this only shall make firm commitment that they will not leave until the full 5 year term expires. if mayavati gets majority seats, let her be pm. if sharad pawar, let him be. if cpm, let one of their leaders be pm. we are eagerly looking forward to defeating both congress and bjp and emergence of a third front soon.

3 party system by raju on 15 Mar 2009

It is time for fundamental change. India has too many parties and that is the reason for corruption. Mps and MLAs are bought and sold. Must restrict to 3 party system both at national and state level. Recognize only UPA / NDA / Third front. All other regional parties must identify / affiliate with one of the parties and must not be allowed to change once they affiliate. The regional parties should not be allowed to have different names and symbols and must contest on one of the three symbols. For example if SP want to support UPA then it should be UPA (SP). Likewise DMK should be UPA (Dmk) and Shiv sena NDA ( ss) and so on. This three party system must be both at national and state level. We must bring in huge changes and reject regionalism. Both supreme court and election commission should play a very decisive role because politicians will not do on their own. If India has to progree then there has to be homogenity in attitude, thinking, approach etc and this is a first step.

THIRD FRONT GROUP OF FRUSTRATED WORTHLESS POLITICIANS by B S GANESH, BANGALORE on 15 Mar 2009

Third Front consists of frustrated power-greedy politicians who have no other work. If they are really patriots let them start schools and hospitals for poor people and attack corruption whichb has become a cancer of economy. They are not fit to be called politicians. They foillow the principles of a Kannada Adage " A carpenter who does not have work scratches the back of children ". This adage is applicable for the members of Third front. They waste public money and time and cause inconvenience. Such politicians defaming the country.B S Ganesh, ganshar@dataone.in 70/9 Basappa Layout, Hanumanthnagar, BANGALORE 560 019

Sorry to say, the third front just does not have a single credible leader, who can make a difference in India. If you see, please let me know, who it is. they can only be called nothing but, VOTE_SPOILER and nothing else, or I may cll it, as a bunch of OPPORTUNITY_HUNTERS. It is extremely unfortunate to see, where India is going. If anyone in the group can think Mayawati as a credible candidate to be PM, only God can help India. Without wasting my time and your time too, I can call it nothing but a bunch of eight letter word, starting with B and ending with T.

Throw away Third Grade Front of third class leaders by danendra jain on 15 Mar 2009

Every political expert or even common man understands and realizes that none of the political party or group is likely to secure majority in the forthcoming election. This election result will definitely produce fractured mandate. Undoubtedly there will be horse-trading and mad race to capture power. Political parties will not hesitate to cheat voters to capture power in the government or to capture money in lieu of support they extend to others in formation of government. Everyone in India understands that coalition gover

National level parties by H. Mehta on 14 Mar 2009

National level parties like BJP and Congress should think for the nation and they should do their level best for "VIKAS" of the people and how INDIA can be shown as the "DEVELOPED" country in map of world. They should not talk with people of good or bad of regional parties. Their candidates for LS must be such that they will think and say only how the nation as a whole can be developed and not thinking of his region only.It is really sad to know that some regional parties are thinking of future PM as of particular region! Virtues and vices of a leader are considered and the leader with more virtues(if not possible without vices) deserve to be the leader of the nation.

NDA Parking-lot-Part-II by RMaran on 14 Mar 2009

4) Venkaiah’s own Kalyan Singh ,once again in UP state, has been using the parking-lot space of the BJP often ,the latest is that he has vacated the space once again to be with Mulayam.5 )Jaya's AIADMK in Tamilnadu was in and out of NDA ,using it as a 'parking-lot'6))So also was the DMK .It was with UF in 96-97, then with NDA between 1999-2003 and now with UPA. As such, the NDA was a parking-lot for the DMK for sometime.7)Mamta Banerjee is notorious for parking her Trinamool 'car' in the 'parking-lot' provided by NDA,in and out umpteen times. Even Venkaiah's party leader (Late) Jana Krishnamoorthy was forced to say that NDA was not a train for anyone to entrain and detrain as they like, obviously making a dig at Mamta. 8) The latest to vacate the parking-lot space of NDA/BJP is none other than Naveen Patnaik of Orisssa. 9)The AGP in Assam has been in and out of NDA’s parking-lot .Mr Venakaiah should look himself in the mirror before he ridicules the 3rd front

NDA's parking-lot ,free for all!!! by RMaran on 14 Mar 2009

Venkaiah ridicules the 3rd front as a parking lot. Poor guy, he has forgotten ,how many parties have left the NDA alliance ,using it as parking-lot. To name few:1) Om Prakash Chautala's INLD in Haryana was first in NDA,then left it to be with Mulayam and chandrababu Naidu for sometime and now again has gone back to NDA to park his INLD ‘car’ in the parking-lot space of NDA 2)Another UP leader Ajit Singh of RLD also used the parking-lot space of the BJP to be in and out of NDA .Now ,he has been allowed to use the parking-lot space of NDA/BJP again in the presence of Advani only recently.3) Again, in the same UP state, BSP’ Mayawati was ‘parking’ her ‘car with BJP’s ‘parking-lot’ space for 6 months before she ditched the BJP . Venkaiah may check if she ‘paid ‘ the parking-lot space fee due for BJP, because she did not allow the BJP to rule UP for the next 6 months. (to continue)
