"The Third Front will not project anyone as its Prime Ministerial candidate during electioneering," CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan told reporters in Bhubaneswar, a day after the Left and some regional parties joined hands to cobble up a third front as an alternative to combines led by Congress and BJP.
He said the question of Prime Minister would be taken into consideration only after the elections.
Bardhan's remark assumes significance as it came a day after Mayawati's senior representative S C Mishra said at the Third Front rally in Tumkur district in Karnataka that BSP's objective was to make her the prime minister. "It is the aim of BSP to make Mayawati Prime Minister," he had said.
On BJD's participation in the Third Front, the CPI stalwart said he would meet BJD supremo and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and discuss the matter with him. CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury had met Patnaik on March 8 in a bid to persuade him to join the Third Front, while JD-S leader H D Deve Gowda and Chandrababu Naidu of TDP had also spoken to the BJD supremo on the subject.
While leaders of the eight-party alliance were keen to see BJD on their platform after it snapped ties with BJP, the regional outfit, led by Patnaik, refrained from participating in the rally in Karnataka, keeping open its post-poll option.
"The BJD will not participate in any front before the elections though it will enter into seat-sharing arrangement with some parties, including the Left," said party MP Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, considered the main strategist of BJD.
BJD, which agreed on seat-sharing with Left parties, NCP and JMM, wants to take a decision on its participation in the Third Front only after the elections, sources said.

Who becomes the PM is unimportant. What is important to all of us is the policy the third front government pursue to improve the living conditions of 70 percent of people who still do not know the meaning of dignity and equality. Our civil servants still do not know that they are paid their monthly income out of general taxation levied on all of us. Will the third front be able to change it?
The UPA or the NDA have no locus standi to criticize the Third Front and label it as an "alliance of opportunism". They should well remember that in this age of coalition politics, no Government is possible even through pre-poll alliance and it will only be one of post-poll. It is not that only these two alliances enjoy the prrerogative of stitching up unprincipled alliance post poll. To say that India has a bi-polar polity in such a fragmented populace only smells of arrogance when these two parties are not a factor to contend with in a majority of seats.
Ofcourse, they can announce the PM in waiting, in case they have any to announce. They are simply waiting to spoil the political scenario (crop)
Jayalalitha may not be in the Third front even for a couple of days.Mayawati is not acceptable to any body.Chandrababu is a lost man.Deve Gowda is in the alliance to intimidate BJP in Karnataka. As usual, Communists do not know now to whom they will extend support to on 'Agenda Basis, till the elections results are out; to Congress, citing the bogey of Hindu Fundamentalism;to BJP , citing Congress Dynastic rule.
What a shame ! You defy the very basis of elections - you can't agree on a leader and you want to lead more than 1 billion people. You want to contest and win the election but are afraid that projecting a single person would sow the seeds for disintegration even before the seed is planted. Imagine waht would happen if these jokers control the nation. Indian voters need to understand this and not vote for a front who cannot even agree to their leader. It is better to vote for a party that at least has a leader, even not fully capable, than a bunch of jokers who avoid projecting a leader lest they should split. Eventually, the country would be worse off with such a front. To be honest, this comment would ensure that they not win.
It is strange, if not ridiculous that the third front could name the PM candidate from its leaders. The absence of a few regional big weights in the block only proves that there is no unanimity in projecting one among them as the PM candidate. After the poll out come, few will see the dire need to join the Congress or the BJP, as they would realize that the third front on its own can not form the Govt. Again, the few who cherished the desire of becoming P M, may not get the plum post ,may be on account of their parties limited presence in the Lok Sabha or others in the front may not even consider them as P M material! So these frustrated few with the promise of coveted ministerial posts may cross over to the Congress or to the BJP rather than allowing one among them to become PM. The ground situation indicates an edge to the congress. It may emerge as the single largest party with 175 seats followed by BJP as the second largest block with 125 seats.
God Really help our lovely country if we have to see a 3rd Front candidate as our PM, do they by any angle looks like representing our country, i m sure they cant even go and speak on behalf of our country, we wont have any image left in the world if we have a PM like them, we should just have a political system like US or UK, where they have just 2 party, we shouldnt have a regional party contesting at a national level and then claiming to be a PM by representing our whole country, even though i am from UP, i will never ever support a person like Mayawati to be as a PM which she is dreaming to be 1, we should have a system where we all can just choose between Congress and BJP which are really true national parties, not like BSP, BJD, RJD, SP, NCP,AIADMK, DMK, CPI, CPM, etc., these all are just small small regional parties and should be limited to just there state not to the national level, GOD really Bless INDIA if we see a 3rd front candidate becoming the next PM, Jai Hind
Third front is a non starter and we the people of India cannot forget the days of Deva Gowda and how the PM post was made a joke. I hope Navin Patnaik and Chandrababau will realise sooner than later.
Pl don't blame them. They have no candidate. But, ofcourse, I can fill that gap.
baradhan you have shown your true self.a guy who has no self respect and a movement which has lost credibility.baradhan you have enjoyed enough prime time appearences on TV.The front you and karat have cobbled has no economic agenda and foriegn policy as the country faces many challanges and these blokes have just one agenda to acquire power at any cost and lets be honest none them have the clarity and credibility least to say comparision to DR SINGH.pl do not destroy what economic growth and stature we enjoy in the world.Just wish the people see these oppurtunist as they are and be mature in giving there vote.
Those who follow Chine should be send(shunted) there. We not need Communism or Capitalism because we have original theory of Gandhism. Thirds are a group of oppourtinests and Jokers.
PM candidate is the lifeline on which the whole front is hanging. The moment it is announced, most of the allies will disintegrate. They know it better than anybody else.
Mayawati and the BSP don't seem to know that there is a limit up to which scum can drift to the top.
Bunch of 3rd grade jokers. Who know- they can't win, so try to unite and win some seats, loot people's money. Send them to Pakistan!
If they announce the PM then the comedy will be over before it begins.
As I am from Bengaluru, I know for first hand the greatness of the Gowdas and ofcourse as an Indian we can recognize that the left parties have some real leaders too along with the remaining crowd pullers in this 'Silsila' alliance. The people will give them a vote if they can know that none of the constituents of the third front are solely in it for opportunity and power for power's sake and inform that they are for India . For this they have to a declare that they will not be in the next government, 'come what may', but will sit in the opposition overseeing things with a responsible ' Big brother' attitude in the opposition benches. If they do well ,really stand up to this test and stay together , the people will surely vote them to Government some time. Can the ' Third front' take this challenge?
Mohan, good one!!!Unfortunately you have Maya in the front and she has declared that not only is the 3rd front going to win, but she is going to become the next PM. If a lowlife like her becomes a PM, we will have to find an alternative country to live.
