Ludhiana, January 19 Gogo the Bulldog loves papaya, pears and milk. Meat is a strict no-no. The dog’s size and ferocious look, however, defy its owner’s claims.

Owner Talwinder Singhy says Gogo was never conditioned into becoming a vegetarian. “I tried my best to make it eat meat and eggs but Gogo refused every time,” he says.

The two-and-a-half-year-old moved into the Singhy household over a year ago.

“I got Gogo from a British family. Having a bulldog as a pet is the same as choosing the Mercedes over other cars,” he says.

Recently, Gogo won several prizes and medals in a dog show at Mohali, which was organised by the Kennel Club of India. “Gogo won the eighth best prize there and the fifth best in the dog show in Ludhiana in November last year,” says Singhy. He is now all set to take Gogo for a dog show in Karnal on Sunday.

Singhy says he is the only one to have a dog of this particular breed in entire north India.

Singhy, who owns Duke Kennel, has earned a name for himself as a dog breeder. In 1990, he started sending his trained dogs for dog shows. “My first participant was a Boxer bitch who won the Best of Opposite Sex award. Since then, my dogs have won 35 challenging certificates along with many Best in Three, Best in Four, Best in Eight and Best of Breed awards. I named my kennel after my dog Duke, who is no more. Duke won the first champion award of north India in a dog show in the late 90s,” says Singhy.

Singhy’s kennel also has imported varieties of dogs like the Lasa Apso, Saint Bernard, New Found Land, Blood Hound, Labrador, German Shepherd and Dash Hound.

“Being a dog lover, I appeal to the public to get their pets properly vaccinated and consider them as family,” says Singhy.
