To begin with, 10 Volvo buses will be used, which will ply on different routes, including Chandigarh to Delhi.
The state has already issued advertisements inviting private operators for the service. This decision was taken after Libra transporters stopped their services between the city and Delhi, causing harassment to passengers.
Said G Prasanna Kumar, Secretary Transport, Haryana, “The issue regarding Libra Transport Company is pending in court. To avoid inconvenience to passengers, we have decided to ply buses of our own. Initially, we are starting with 10 AC buses and plan to increase the number later”.
Officials said that more destinations will be covered under this service, starting next month.
Libra transporters withdrew their services on February 14 reportedly because the UT was not meeting their contract demands.
They were providing around eight AC buses and all of them were plying between Chandigarh and Delhi. While the transporters argued that proper terms and conditions were not met, officials maintained the operators had ceased the services after they were asked to abide by the rules of the contract, which they were constantly ignoring.
The contract with the company was valid till September this year, but they stopped the service months before the deadline.
The officials moved the court over the issue and got a stay order, but this was not followed by the operators resulting in contempt of the court.
