Bhai Rupa (Bathinda), February 13 Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said some elements with no mass base were out to disturb the hard-earned peace.

The CM was here to lay foundation stone of some projects and inaugurate few others. Addressing a gathering here, Badal, without naming anyone, termed the nefarious elements as ‘tateehri’, which he described as “a creature that rests in the evening with its legs facing the sky thinking that by doing so it would save all from any calamity coming down”.

“They try to present themselves as representatives of people, while the truth is that they do not have any MLA or representative at any level,” he added.

Meanwhile, in Bathinda, former Akal Takht chief Jasbir Singh Rode and SAD (1920) chief Ravi Inder Singh lashed out at Badal, accusing him of “siding with dera chief and ignoring the Akal Takht Hukamnama”. Referring to the Khalsa Action Committee (KAC) march of February 10, they alleged that first time in the history of the state, “the Guru Granth Sahib and Panj Piaras were not allowed to move and Sikhs were asked to remove their turbans in the police station”.

They said very soon, a memorandum would be submitted to the Akal Takht chief in this regard. Earlier, Badal, in his speech at Bhai Rupa village, while expressing concern over demand-supply gap of power, said 6,500 MWs of power was available against the demand of 11,000 MW.

He, however, assured, “One day, we will have surplus power to give to other states.” Saying that 85 per cent of the money went to salaries of the employees, Badal expressed government’s inability to give employment to all and called upon the youth to focus on vocational training.

Later, Sukhbir Badal called upon the gathering to participate in the Insaaf Rally to be held at Ram Lila Maidan Delhi on February 26.

Earlier, the CM inaugurated 66 KV sub-grid substation in Maluka, laid the foundation stone of substation of same capacity and an Adarsh School at Dialpura Bhai Ka and of Rs 2-crore sub-tehsil building at Bhagta. Besides, he also laid the foundation stones for the widening and strengthening of link roads at Bhai Roopa and Maluka. Badal also inaugurated an SGPC school in Maluka.

Responding to a question, CM and Sukhbir Badal condemned the attacks on North Indians in Maharashtra. To another query on Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal’s statements on subsidies, the CM said the final decision would be taken by the Cabinet.
