Chandigarh, March 11 Three people — accused of abducting a minor girl — were acquitted today by a lower court.

A case of abduction was registered against the trio — Gurmukh Singh, Sadhu Singh and Surinder Kaur — was filed on the complaint of Sharbati Devi, who had alleged that her 16-year-old daughter was abducted in October 2004.

Sources said that Gurmukh wanted to marry Sharbati’s daughter. But her parents had turned down the proposal.

Since there was no other evidence against the trio except Sharbati’s statement, the court acquitted the three of the charges of abduction.
