Chandigarh, January 10 Three youngsters ended their lives here today. The deceased are Aditya (18), who hanged himself, upset after his mother scolded him for misusing his tuition fee; Raju (22), who ended his life as he was suffering from an ailment, and Mamta Rani (18), who wrote in her suicide note that she never wanted to live and thus was committing suicide.

The first incident was reported at Sukhna Lake. An unidentified body was found floating on the water, spotted by a morning-walker who informed the police. The body was brought out of the water. A girl, matching the description of the body found, was already reported missing since last night at Manimajra police station. Her father Dhan Singh, a Sewadar, was called on the spot, who identified the body as that of his daughter Mamta Rani. Mamta’s bag was also recovered from the lake. She had left a note in her dairy, where she mentioned that she was ending her life and that nobody be blamed for her step. She had added that she ‘had’ to die and nobody could have stopped her, as she was fed up with her life.

“We have kept the body at the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination which would be conducted tomorrow,” said Inspector Ramgopal, Station House Officer (SHO), police station 3.

Within minutes of the incident, another body was found hanging from a tree in Sector 34, near Public Works Department building. Raju, who was working as a labourer and used to stay with his friends at PWD building, was found hanging from a tree. His friends disclosed that he was suffering from a prolonged ailment, for which he had started showing signs of depression. His parents were informed by the police.

The third incident took place this afternoon, when Aditya, a 10+2 student of Sanjay Public School ended his life after his mother Neelam scolded him because he had taken his tuition money and spent it elsewhere. “Aditya was the only son of his parents. His father Shubhkaran lives in Dubai. His mother is a housewife and they stay in Sector 45.

He had taken money from his mother to pay his tuition fee, but which he spent elsewhere. After his mother scolded him, he went to his room, locked it from inside and hanged himself from the ceiling fan. He was discovered later by the mother, who informed the neighbours. The police reached the spot and initiated investigations.
