Faizabad (UP) Three persons travelling on the roof of a train were killed and 35 others seriously injured after falling off the jam-packed Saryu Express near Pratapgarh.

The accident occurred at Chilbila, about 80 km from Faizabad on Monday when the people sitting on the roof of the train were hit by a tree branch, Station Officer, GRP, Abhimanyu Dhar Dwivedi said.

Around 200 passengers were travelling on the roof of the train plying between Allahabad and Faizabad. The passengers, who were to take part in an army recruitment drive being held here, were travelling on the roof as there was no space in the bogies, he said.

The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Lucknow, Allahabad and Pratapgarh.
