AR Rahman’s music in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Bombay Dreams has done singer Sukhwinder Singh more than a good turn. When Hollywood director Spike Lee heard the soundtrack Chhaiya chhaiya in the musical, he was so impressed with Singh that he had him perform a hip-hop rendition of the song in his movie Inside Man. Now the man with the baritone will reportedly sing in another Universal Pictures production that has Denzel Washington in the lead. The movie will be directed by Steven Spielberg and Singh is likely to perform a traditional Kutch folk song. Now that’s a breakthrough.
