Chandigarh, March 5 The 22nd Annual Convocation of the Government College for Girls, Sector 42, was held today. UT Home and Education Secretary Krishna Mohan, who presided over the convocation, distributed 684 degrees to the students. Director Higher Education Raji P Srivastava was the guest of honour.

A newsletter ‘Scoop-Volume III’ was also released by Mohan to mark the occasion. “Chandigarh probably has the best infrastructure in terms of education in the whole country,” Mohan said. Outlining the basics for achieving success in life, he said: “Faith in oneself is the foremost thing to be an achiever in life as well as your career.” He advised students not to take anything for granted, as “in today’s competitive world, it is very crucial to have full knowledge of your subject”. He also emphasised the need of having a good command over English, knowledge of computers and management skills.

Addressing parents, Mohan advised them to communicate with their children to understand them better and know about their needs and problems. He added: “Daughters are a beautiful creation of God so parents should take great pride in them.”

Of the total 684 degrees, 136 were awarded to BA (Honours) students, 245 to BA students, 27 to BCom (Honours) students, 98 to BCom students and 76 degrees to BSc students. Eight students were awarded the Certificate of Merit.
