Gurgaon, February 18 The Gurgaon Police today announced 16 traffic signals would be installed to ease the congestion in the suburb. Commuters can write in to dcptrafficggn@gmail.com—to address their traffic woes, police said.

DCP Traffic Satinder Gupta, said, “Based on surveys and consultations with the transport department, we have demarcated 16 spots that need traffic signals.”

Of the 16 signals, seven will be constructed within DLF phases, considering the heavy traffic congestion in the “model city”. Others will come up in front of Ardee City, Faridabad Road, Badshapur and the intersection leading to Sohna.

Gurgaon Traffic Police will also carry out a drive next week to sensitise commuters and children about traffic rules.

Gupta said, “We will hold special sessions in schools and traffic junctions to educate commuters and children, and encourage them to follow traffic rules and regulations at all times.”

The traffic department has also engaged 40 “observers”, on a voluntary basis, to help reduce the congestion. According to the DCP, a recruitment drive is on to address the shortage of manpower in the traffic department.

On Monday, 20 new personnel were recruited to regulate and streamline traffic. Gupta said, in the coming months, 100 more will be enrolled.

In addition to reduce tension and traffic related problems, all 250 traffic police personnel will enrol for yoga classes.

“Our officers are under extreme stress and tension throughout the day, considering incidents of road rage. To address this, we have decided to teach yoga and meditation to traffic personnel,” said the DCP.

The traffic department will send their officers in groups to practice yoga before joining the day’s work.
