Ludhiana, February 14 From one to two and now four. The Ludhiana Land Registry office will get four sub-registrars, two each for Ludhiana East and West. The demand to increase the number of sub-registrars has been long pending as the city records nearly 200 land registries every day.

On a daily basis, Ludhiana raises a revenue of nearly Rs 60 lakh to Rs 70 lakh for the state exchequer.

The new appointees include Kanwal Narinderpal Singh and Tarsem Mittal for Ludhiana East and Amandeep Singh Bhatti and Mukesh Kumar for Ludhiana West.

Last Wednesday, some advocates reportedly abused and manhandled Sub Registrar Mukesh Kumar reportedly due to the slow pace of work. Mukesh Kumar had to be rushed to a local hospital after he complained of chest pain. Mukesh Kumar has been on leave ever since.

On being asked whether four land registrars will help ease rush, Mukesh Kumar said, “Only time will tell. I have single handedly done 200 land registries in a day”.
