A dejected Bucknor said he was disappointed by the turn of events and called it a sad day for umpires.
Bucknor, however, said he respected ICC's authority in the matter.
"I am disappointed that I am not continuing the tour between Australia and India, in Australia. But I respect ICC's authority in the matter," the veteran of 120 Tests said in a statement.
"To err is human, to forgive divine, as the old saying goes," Bucknor said.
Bucknor, who was sacked by ICC from officiating in the Perth Test after India complained against his blunders that cost them the Sydney Test, said he faced the flak for making just two wrong decisions.
"However, I consider it a sad day to see umpires sidelined after making only two wrong decisions out of a record of 35 appeals," he said.
The 61-year-old Bucknor, the most experienced umpire in the Elite Panel, quietly returned to his home managing to evade the press.
Andrew Symonds was out caught behind when he was on 30 but the appeal was turned down by Bucknor and he went on to revive the Australian innings with a blistering 162 not out.
Later Symonds' admission that he was out turned on the ire of the visitors on Bucknor, who has given several controversial decisions against India in the past.
The caught behind dismissal of Rahul Dravid on the last day when India was battling to save the Test made matters worse.
ICC replaced Bucknor by New Zealand's Billy Bowden after the Indian team complained and commentators and former players criticised his decisions.
ICC CEO Malcolm Speed while announcing the removal of Bucknor made it clear that he will continue to officiate in international matches.
Bucknor, a former FIFA referee, has stood in a record 120 Tests and five World Cup finals in his glittering career.

RatingUmpires are human and make mistakes. The ICC should forvgive them and also scrap the results of such matches. Merely punishing the umpires and not doing anything regarding the unfair match result makes the ICC come across as a clumsy institution run by less competent men unfit to be guardians and custodians of the game. Justice and fairness is what many expect to be the hallmark in any sport.
Oh Yeah Bucknor got only two decisions wrong in sydney!1.To uphold any appeals against indian batsmen 2. To deny any appeals against Aussies.Everything else he got it right.I dont know why the man was punished!!
The match was fixed by Bucknoor and Ponting.Ponty wants to get all the records for himself,so he made a deal with Buck as India would have won the match and stop the winning spree.Bucknoor should be investigated and see how much money he recieved.Just think about the whole episode and you have your answers.

Mr.Bucknor earned the ire of players, mediamen and spectators not for what he did, but what he did not do, like rejecting the appeal all-knowingly and not referring it to the third umpire.

Enough said Bucknor.....please retire dude....you just ruined India's chances of winning/drawing the series. Just go home and live on your social security or something else...please don't ruin it for us. If you really want to stay on then give up your ego and ALWAYS refer close calls to 3rd umpire.
Steve Bucknor has a long and creditable career in international umpring,but one must realise that there is a time to call it a day, when with age the body has its limitations. He should have retired gracefully instead of hanging on due to greed to make more money. His few errors as he claims have been too costly for India and beyond being condoned.

Umpires standing for Test Matches, ODIs and T20s, must not hesitate to regularly consult with the 3rd and TV Umpires when in doubts.This will aleviate the Heart pain of many National Cricket Teams, on many occassions.
Mr. Bucknor, To admit to mistakes and gracefully give up is greatness. To persist inspite of grave errors and wait till kicked out is stuidity,folishness and shameful

Bucknor (as also Clive Lloyd) is a West Indian equivalent of our own Brown Saheb. One hopes his removal will actually be tbe point where the Buck[nor] stops. The Indian cricket establishment had been far too lenient with him. We ought to have told him a long time back to Buck off.
