Deoband (UP), February 25: Denouncing terrorism in all its manifestations, top Muslim groups in India on Monday adopted a declaration calling it "un-Islamic" and terming it against the Islamic principle of "peace".

The declaration adopted by the organisations at a meeting in Deoband on Monday, however, also criticised attempts to malign Muslims and madrassas.

The Anti-terrorism Conference organised by Islamic Seminary Darul Uloom in Uttar Pradesh's Deoband town was attended by clerics, scholars and religious leaders from several sects and groups across the country.

"Islam is a religion of mercy for all humanity. Islam sternly condemns all kinds of oppression, violence and terrorism. It has regarded oppression, mischief, rioting and murder among severest sins and crimes," said the declaration, adopted by over 10,000 participants.

"Islam prohibits killing of innocent people," it said.

The conference, however, expressed its deep concern and agony on the present global condition in which most of the nations are adopting an adverse attitude towards Muslims.

"It is a matter of greater concern that the internal and external policies of a country are getting heavily influenced by these forces," it said.

The gathering also condemned attempts to implicate Muslims and particularly religious institutions for terrorist acts.

"The disease (terrorism) has been diagnosed in a wrong way. Whenever there is any incident of terrorism, every possible attempt is made to link it to Muslims and particularly who have studied in madrassas and some religious institutions. This is totally wrong," said Adil Siddiqui, Public Relations Officer of Darul Uloom.

A complete Renassiance is reqired, for Islam to become a progressive religion. by DILIP/FRANCE on 25 Feb 2008

THis is nothing more than a hogwash and a gimmick of a Grand design to pull the wool over our eyes, as muslims all over the world are under the scanner and are loathed. It remains to be seen how much importance is given this dictatby the Indian muslims? India must not allow the vile, barbaric and inhuman Sharia Law to be implemented.Do not try to fool us with islam as a peaceful religion and all that mumbo jumbo, it anything but peacefu? Any peace it accepys is the piece of your mutiliated body. This is like skating on the surface, waht is required is a root and branch overhaul and renaiisance of a doctrine that is outdated harking back to over 1400 years old, nothing short of this will assist muslims to change their mindset and accept rationaility.

Terrorism is unislamic in Islam by RS on 25 Feb 2008

This is very good. Why is it that these Muslim groups took so much time to adopt this decleration. Islam has always been the religion of peace and its message is Universal. Islam is the religion of truth and it teaches the practical way of life. The Muslims of India and world should come together and adopt such decleration. The next step will be to find resolution of all the world problems affecting Muslims and Islam by peaceful means. Islam should invite all the people and intellectuals and scholars from different faith to have a dialogue on the true meaning of Islam which is peace and brotherhood. They should take up issue of publishing of cartoons of our prophet with the European Union and make them understand that it hurts our feeling when they do such act. Islam and its people hv never shown disrespect to the prophets and rishis of other religion. As Quran teaches us to respect all the prophets and rishis send by God, they should also learn to respect our Prophet. We as Muslims have big responsibility of projecting our self as trustworthy and righteous people on this earth as our Prophet was. Our Madarrassas which are incorretly projected as breeding ground of terrorist should also correct their attitude and method of teaching so that no religion or community points fingure on them. I hope this will lead to the dawn of new era for Islam and its people on this earth.

Islam is peace by RK on 25 Feb 2008

well this will never happen. your prophet himself indulged in acts which in any civilized society of modern times would be considered as a crime. so when you follow him, there is no question of what your religion is.

Can you take care of this ? by Praada Verna on 25 Feb 2008

Better ask MF Hussain, what he painted of the Hindu Gods and say "never shown disrespect to the prophets and rishis of other religion""I hope this will lead to the dawn of new era for Islam and its people on this earth", this is what everyone is asking about. Asking favours only for the people of Islam and not Human kind.

Modi, BJP and Shiv Sena by DILIP on 25 Feb 2008

BJP, MODI AND SHIV SENA SHOULD PLEDGE THE SAME.THESE WORMS SPOIL THE GOOD RESPECT OF THE GREAT HINDU RELIGION, NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY, USA REJECTING VISA TO MODI IS ONLY ONE EXAMPLE.

My view by venkat on 25 Feb 2008

Modi should pledge what? Not to fight islamic terrorism? Looks like some people never learn things even after people's verdict. Infering that USA rejection of visa for Modi is some kind of insult to him shows your slave mentality. You wrote about his visa thing few times before and I am assuming you are a moron because USA itself isn't a leading light on human rights. So, who care if they reject visa.

Modi by RS on 25 Feb 2008

Modi is not fighting islamic terrorism. Modi is creating a wedge between Hindus and Muslim for his vested interest in Gujarat. For your information, do you know why he was refused visa by US. Becos his hands are stained with blood of Congress MLA Ahsan Jafri who was killed during the Gujrat riots. The children of Ahsan Jafri is in USA and they hv produced evidence to the US govt about the hand of Modi in their fathers killing. Dont be a stooge of Modi. The justice and truth has to prevail in this case and Modi will be exposed today or tommorrow and the people of Gujarat will know his true colour. There is no big deal that the people of Gujrat elected him second time on the basis of hindutva, George bush was also elected second time and now the people of America hv realised and want him to go asap.

trrrorism unislamic by jati hoon on 25 Feb 2008

Jaziya and Dhimmi by Manoj on 25 Feb 2008

Nothing short of accepting other religion as equal and allowing a live-and-let-live attitude is acceptable. concept of Jaziya and Dhimmi has to be eradicated from Quran.
