Like Satam, a few other artistes who were honoured also spoke their mind on the occasion. Many of them drew loud cheers from the jampacked Prof Ramkrishna More auditorium in Chinchwad.
Among those felicitated with the Kala Gaurav Puraskar include: Chandrakant Joshi for best direction, Mangesh Kadam for play, Pratap Gangawane for script, Shivaji Satam for acting, Makrand Anaspure and Vijay Kadam for comedy, Dr Sucheta Chapekar for classical dance, Swapnil Bandokar for singing, Rutuja Deshmukh for upcoming actress and Adesh Bandekar for best anchoring. Local artistes including Saroj Rao (arts), Santosh Salvi (tabla), Ramesh Shinde (acting), Vinisha Nambiar (dance) and Asaram Kasbe were also honoured. Aishwarya Narkar, who was also among the awardees, could not make it. University of Pune Vice-Chancellor Dr Narendra Jadhav, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said organisations should take initiatives for helping senior artistes who find themselves in trouble after their heydays over. "It is important that initiatives are taken to help seniors in their twilight years," he urged. Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor Vaishali Ghodekar, NCP chief Azam Pansare and Kalarang chief Amit Gorkhe were present. Gorkhe introduced the guests while Satish Diwan compered the show.
