Toxic water supply worries residents

Patiala, January 10 Nearly half a dozen residential areas in the city are reportedly being forced to deal with contaminated drinking water supply in their houses. The situation has not improved though the residents have lodged several complaints with the Municipal Corporation.

The areas affected include Lehal Colony, Sewak Colony, Punjabi Bagh, Gian Colony, Kishore Colony, Sant Nagar, Mansahia Colony etc. Residents complain that steps have not been taken by the corporation to correct the situation.

Pappi Bansal, a Gian Colony resident complained that water supplied by the MC had practicles. He said, “ We decided to approach the media, so that the problem could be highlighted.”

YS Banga, an health official said,” We will depute SDO Subhash Sharma to solve the problem. The Charan Bagh tubewell will be closed to carry necessary repairs.” MC officials blamed the problem on frost. They claimed that many of the pipes were old and had developed cracks. Patiala mayor Ajit Pal Singh Kohli claimed, “A team has been deputed to repair the pipes. The problems will be solved soon.”
