Chandigarh, January 25 The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has supported the strike of bank employees today and has justified their protest. The CITU leaders today said the opposition of merger of public sector banks by the employees and their demand of pension for those who did not opt for it earlier are justified.

They further added that employees’ demands for restoration of appointments in banks on compassionate ground, filling up of vacancies, early revision of wages are also justified.

Addressing the strikers in Sector 17, the general Secretary of CITU, A Sawhney, expressed the union’s solidarity with the United Forum of Banks Unions (UFBU), which had given the call for an all-India strike on Friday.

Sawhney said the last wage settlement ended on October 31, 2007 and Charters of Demands from various unions and associations have been served but the Indian Banks Association has not started any meaningful discussion with other unions.
