Chandigarh, January 3 More than 150 senior citizens participated in a workshop organised by Chandigarh Traffic Police, on the third day of the Road-Safety week at Traffic Police Lines, Sector 29 today.

Senior officials urged traffic police personnel to be respectful and polite while dealing with senior citizens and tourists on roads, even if they have committed a traffic violation. UT Inspector General of Police S K Jain, chief guest on the occasion, invited senior citizens to volunteer their services for a good cause and lend a helping hand in making 2008 an accident-free year.

Various eminent persons including A K Ummat, Dr J S Dargan, S M Bose and M L Lakhanpal were the key speakers, who shared their experiences with senior citizens and police personnel gathered there.

Earlier, during the day, traffic police personnel educated auto-rickshaw drivers at three important points — PGIMER, ISBT 17 and Railway Station — making them aware of traffic rules and regulations.

The next programme on road-safety and school area traffic management for school teachers and principals will be held on January 5 at 4 pm, at Police Auditorium, Traffic Police Lines, Sector 29, Chandigarh.
