Chehru (Phagwara), March 20 A bogie of DEMU train, on its way to Lucknow from Jalandhar, caught fire today.

The driver, after learning about the fire, immediately stopped the train and got the bogie detached. Within few minutes entire bogie was gutted. Fortunately, there was no passenger in the train as it was going to Lucknow from Jalandhar for repair.

Sources at the Jalandhar cantt railway station said the train started its journey from Jalandhar station at 1.25 pm and at 1.37 pm, while it was close to Chehru station, the last bogie caught fire.

The fire was first noticed by the gateman, Ashok Paswan, of Pragpur railway crossing and he informed station master of Jalandhar cantonment station AS Khajoor, who told the driver. Sources said that a pump, used for filling oil in the train, may have triggered the fire. However, Khajoor said the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

In another incident, a nine-inch long part of the railway track was found missing near Jaitewali village on Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur railway track. A villager, who first noticed it, informed the authorities and prevented a tragedy.
