Mumbai, July 17 Oshiwara police are conducting inquiries in a case of the abduction and robbery of one Peter Almeida (56), a transport businessman residing at Ashokvan in Borivali. According to Almeida, he was abducted and robbed on June 19 from Oshiwara by two unidentified men.

He alleged in his complaint that when he approached the Dahisar police to file a complaint, he was beaten up by a police sub-inspector and had been receiving threat calls on his cell-phone from a person who claimed to be an officer with the elite ATS (Anti Terrorism Squad).

As per the complaint lodged by Almeida, he was accosted and bundled into a car by two unidentified men on June 19 night from near Hotel Sudarshan on Meera Desai Road.

When contacted, Police Inspector Datta Sankhe of the Oshiwara police station said, “Almeida claimed that the two men were armed with revolvers and after bundling him into a car, one of them hit him on his head with the butt of a revolver, causing him to fall unconscious. When he woke up, he realised that the two men had taken away his gold chain worth over Rs. 1 lakh and cash to the tune of Rs. 4,500. After taking the valuables, they allegedly dropped him off near the Dahisar check-naka and fired two rounds in the air in his direction.”

In his complaint to the Oshiwara police, Almeida had alleged that though he approached the Dahisar police station, he was beaten up by a police sub-inspector and told to go away.

“Almeida revealed to us the name of the police official who allegedly assaulted him, but we cannot disclose the name at this stage as we are still trying to verify the allegations. He also alleged since the incident took place, he had been receiving threat calls from a man claiming to be an officer with the ATS. According to Almeida, this ‘officer’, allegedly threatened to frame Almeida in some fake case if he continue to approach the police to complain about the abduction and robbery,” said Sankhe.

The Oshiwara police filed a case of abduction, robbery and attempt to murder against the two unidentified men and are probing into his allegations of receiving threat calls from the ‘ATS officer’ and the incident of alleged assault by the Dahisar police official.
