Chandigarh, February 19 The Chandigarh Police Economic Offences Wing has booked a Sector 33 resident Paramjit Singh Gandhi on charges of cheating, fraud and criminal conspiracy. Gandhi runs a travel agency in the name of Global Study Resources Limited in Sector 26, Chandigarh.

Gandhi is facing similar charges in another case and is absconding.

According to the police, a Jalandhar resident Avtar Singh had complained that he had paid Rs 4.78 lakh to Gandhi after he assured him a visa for the United Kingdom in few days. But despite Avtar’s several visits, he neither got a visa, nor the refund of his money.

“Avtar Singh has alleged that Gandhi has cheated him of Rs 4.78 lakhs in the name of sending him abroad.

Whenever Avtar Singh contacted Gandhi, he assured him that he would send him abroad in the next few days. However, it never happened and Gandhi fled with Avtar’s money. We have raided his office and residence, but he is absconding,” said one of the investigating officials of the UT Police associated with the case.

Gandhi has done his graduation from the Government College of Art, Sector 10, and did his post-graduation from Panjab University. He has worked with various multi-national companies in India and abroad.

A case was registered against Gandhi at police station-26 today.

Raids were being conducted at his possible hideouts till the filing of this report.
