"She is very upset. It is a major issue for her. At the end of the day, she is a 21-year-old girl trying to do her best," Mahesh Bhupathi, India's doubles ace and her manager, was quoted as saying by The Australian.
"Everything is adding up and she is starting to wonder whether it is all worth it, but people close to her, they are telling her to hang in there," India's doubles ace said.
Sania was recently embroiled in a controversy over the shooting of a commercial in the premises of the Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad and tendered an apology in the matter.
Close on its heels comes the legal case filed against her by a Bhopal resident for allegedly showing disrespect to the tricolour.
Images of Sania putting her feet towards the flag while watching Rohan Bopanna's match at Hopman Cup in Perth were flashed all over newspapers and television channels.
If found guilty under the Prevention of Insult to the National Honour Act, Sania could face a three-year term in jail. Bhupathi said these issues were disturbing the tennis star.
"It is affecting her form. It is affecting her mentally.
Not many people would know this, but I, as her manager, know that she turned down a six-figure sum from another event to play for her country in Perth.
"People don't know what goes on behind the scenes, yet they make these irresponsible and ignorant accusations. You don't turn down big money to play in another event if you don't love your country," Bhupathi said.
All India Tennis Association has also come out in Sania's support saying too much is being made of trivial issues and she should be kept away from controversies to allow her to play freely.
"It is most unfortunate that Sania Mirza's name is being dragged unnecessarily from one controversy to the other. Such situations are affecting her performance," AITA Secretary General Anil Khanna said.

This proves how much Indian she is
The journalists, photographers and TV journalists are the real villains who go so cheap to feed their news papers and channels by just focusing unwanted silly snaps whereas one can see our national flags used by our National political parties during the celebration of Independence/Republic day celebrations lie scattered on roads and streets under the feet of those so called nationalists and patriots. Hell with those hypocrites and spare our India's pride Miss Sania Mirza. For heavensake dont mix-up religion and nationalism in the way of an young and innocent talent coming up.
Sania is playing in this tournament rather than the moneyed one, because the players here are weak and she might improve her ratings a bit. In the more moneyed tournament there are players who will knock this incresingly fattening player to dust easily. At 21, she is already past her prime, and looks more like a 35 year old woman anyway. It is wonderful that she apologised for "insulting" Islam, but for dishonour to national flag, she is threatening to hang her racket. Funny, the way Islamist mind works. And she plays for India because she is allowed to, it is pretty difficult to play in a Burka if she chooses to play for Pakistan Iran Saudi Arabia or wherever her realy sympathies lie. Bhupathi is making all these wierd statements in spite of knowing the "behind the scenes" truth, because its money for him for managing her as well. This woman has been "really close" (in all meanings of the phrase) to well known criminals and traitors like Azharuddin, comes from the same ghettos of Hyderabad, and can not be trusted a bit.
Leave her alone! Ask that Bhopal resident to pick a racket and get on court; the guy probably is jobless. An unintentional act does not amount to disrespect. We all love our country but that does not we should create a hue and cry for unintentional acts.
Those who brought the case should first of all know that the Indian flag was there only because of Sania.Secondly, the flag code needs changes because now the government has allowed public to use flags on a daily basis and there will be instances where people will inadverdently be in positions that may be deemed a violation of the code.Thirdly, other countries too have flags and they do not get so bizarre about it ..British flag is worn on Bikinis and undies and nobody objects to them, even though British are no less nationalists than Indians so why this fuss about??
I support Mahesh and AITA on their stand for Sania. She has made us proud. Leave her to concentrate on Tennis and stop harrassing her. Since George W. Bush's war of religions, we Indians have become too radicals and religious fanatics, this is not going to help any one. Religion is a very personal and private affair of an individual and should be kept out of the politics and sports.I am proud that we have a good Indian Muslim Girl, called Sania Mirza, who represents our country well in her field of sports.SANIA KEEP UP YOUR GAME AND FORGET ALL THE IDIOTS WHO ARE TROUBLING YOU.
