Kolkata, March 29 Unidentified miscreants reportedly injured Trinamool Congress MLA Sougata Roy at Subharatnapur in North 24 Parganas on Saturday.

Roy was assaulted when he was returning to the city after attending a party meeting. The motive behind the attack has not been ascertained. No arrests have been made so far in the case.

According to reports, Roy and some of his party colleagues were on their way to Kolkata in his car when it was stopped by a group near Subharatnapur around 7.45 pm. The attackers reportedly threw stones at the car, breaking its widow panes. When Roy got off the car, he was hit by a stone, after which he developed respiratory problems.

The attackers fled the spot after one of Roy’s colleagues called the local police station and reported the incident. A group of policemen led by Bongaon sub-divisional police officer Subhash Sen rushed to the spot.

Local Trinamool supporters held a demonstration in the area demanding immediate arrest of the attackers. They also threatened to give a bandh call in Bongaon, if police fail to arrest the attackers within a day.
