New Delhi, February 27 Kazakhastan's Alexey Kedriouk spelt the end of Karan Rastogi’s troubled week today, taking the three-set route to defeating the Indian 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 at the DLTA Complex. After his hard-fought win over Harsh Mankad in the first round, Rastogi had admitted his game had been affected by the questions crowding his mind regarding the Davis Cup revolt. However, even a day after withdrawing his protest, perhaps some of those doubts still persist, as his concentration today left a lot to be desired. Unforced errors from him saw plenty of points being gifted away to the Kazakh, and the Indian could not capitalise on his advantage after winning the opening set. Kedriouk rained down the serves mercilessly, and had five aces in the final set.

However, it is another Indian—Navdeep Singh—who awaits Kedriouk’s challenge in the quarter-finals. Navdeep had upset the top seed on the first day of the tournament, and today, too, he survived a few nervous moments before defeating Divij Sharan and his serve and volley, 6-4, 7-5. This second round match saw plenty of long rallies and a few memorable points, as Sharan’s constant advances to the net were met by accurate passing shots and some well-executed lobs. The last of these was put on show in the final game of the match: Divij scrambled to the baseline as he watched the ball fly past, but in vain, drawing a triumphant cry and a pumped fist from Navdeep.

Vivek Shokeen could not convert either of the two match points he had against second seed Alexander Satschko, a thumb injury doing the damage and keeping him away from a quarter-final spot. The German will play Serb David Savic after defeating Shokeen 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (5).

Results: Alexey Kedriouk (KAZ) bt Karan Rastogi 3-6, 6-3, 6-1; Navdeep Singh bt Divij Sharan 6-4, 7-5; Guillermo Alcaide (ESP) bt Vaja Uzakov (UZB) 6-7 (9), 6-2, 6-3; David Savic (SRB) bt Tzu-yang Lin (TPE) 6-3, 6-4; Rohan Gajjar bt Hsien-yin Peng (TPE) 7-6 (2), 7-6 (7); Sun Peng (CHN) bt Vinod Sridhar 4-6, 6-2, 6-2; Simeon Ivanov (BUL) bt Todor Enev (BUL) 6-3, 6-0; Alexander Satschko (GER) bt Vivek Shokeen 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
