However, it is another Indian—Navdeep Singh—who awaits Kedriouk’s challenge in the quarter-finals. Navdeep had upset the top seed on the first day of the tournament, and today, too, he survived a few nervous moments before defeating Divij Sharan and his serve and volley, 6-4, 7-5. This second round match saw plenty of long rallies and a few memorable points, as Sharan’s constant advances to the net were met by accurate passing shots and some well-executed lobs. The last of these was put on show in the final game of the match: Divij scrambled to the baseline as he watched the ball fly past, but in vain, drawing a triumphant cry and a pumped fist from Navdeep.
Vivek Shokeen could not convert either of the two match points he had against second seed Alexander Satschko, a thumb injury doing the damage and keeping him away from a quarter-final spot. The German will play Serb David Savic after defeating Shokeen 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
