The word ‘moussaka’ is from the Arabic term-musaqqa—which means chilled. In Greece, the dish is made of layers of minced lamb or red meat, sliced eggplant and tomato, topped with a white sauce and then baked. Ingredients like zucchini, fried potatoes or sautéed mushrooms are also added. In Turkey, moussaka is not layered; it is prepared with sautéed and fried eggplants, green peppers, tomatoes, onions and minced meat.
One can find delicious moussaka at Souk at the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, and at Flags, Cooperage.
