Mumbai, January 18 Two youths —allegedly belonging to the Bunty Pandey gang —were shot dead in an encounter by the crime branch officials at Andharwadi road near Kalyan creek on Friday.

According to the crime branch officials, the duo, around 26-27 year old, travelled from Kalva to Kalyan to “extort money” from a Kalyan-based builder, Jayesh Thakar.

Thaker had informed the crime branch officials about the extortion calls being made to him by Bunty Pandey men. The crime branch team laid a trap to nab the duo and a team led by officer Vijay Salaskar waited for two hours near Patwardhan building where the builder has his office.

However, when the duo arrived, they started firing to evade arrest. In retaliation, the crime branch team fired eleven rounds, killing the youths.
