Panchkula, March 19 The Panchkula police have arrested two persons for attacking a resident of Sector 15, Panchkula, with a sword late in the afternoon today.

The attckers, Babul (40) from Jharkhand and Vipin Tewari (21), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, forcibly entered the residence of Sanjay Maggu with an aim to commit robbery.

After the family of Maggu informed the police, a checkpost near the Baltana crossing was set up where the two accused were later arrested.

“Sanjay Maggu owns a shop in Chandigarh Industrial Area, Phase II. The two accused, Vipin and Babul, used to work in two different shops close to his shop. As one of them was facing financial problem, the duo planned to commit theft at Maggu’s house while his wife would be alone at home,” said Sector 20 SHO Balbir Singh. He added that Maggu’s servant Ramesh was also involved in planning the theft with the accused, as he was aware as to when the wife of Maggu would be alone at home.

The SHO added, “The three planned the robbery two days ago and today one of them went to the house with a sword at around 12 pm.

“It was by chance that Sanjay Maggu had stayed back for some work and he was at his house when the accused attacked. While Ramesh waited outside, Vipin and Babul knocked at the door and the moment Maggu’s wife Kanchan opened the door, they snatched the money she was carrying in her hand and started questioning her about other valuables present inside the house. In the process, the duo injured Kanchan. Maggu heard the screams of his wife and immediately rushed to rescue her. On seeing Maggu, the accused fled from the spot,” said SHO.

Kanchan was later taken to the General Hospital in Sector 6 where she was given first aid.

The police was informed and a naka near the Baltana crossing was set up. Vipin and Babul were arrested soon.

“The accused were first timers, that’s why they were easily arrested. Vipin and Babul have been arrested while Ramesh is still on the run,” said SHO. A case has been registered at the Sector 20 police station.
