Chandigarh, January 9 Head Constable Suresh Kumar and Constable Anil Kumar, deputed for traffic regulation duty at Transport Lightpoint, were caught on graft charges.

The constables demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 500 from Ashok Chopra, a Faridabad resident, for letting him go without being challaned for traffic violation.

Chopra, who was traveling in his Ford Endeavour Vehicle (HR-51-X-7902) allegedly took a wrong turn. He was stopped by Constable Anil Kumar.

Rather than challaning the driver of the vehicle for the violation, the duo took Rs 500 from Chopra, about which he later sent a written complaint to the senior traffic police officials.

UT Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) A S Ahlawat got a preliminary inquiry conducted and placed both HC Suresh and Constable Anil Kumar under suspension and transferred them to Police Lines. A regular departmental inquiry was also ordered against them.
