According to police, the accused rang the door bell at victim Manoj Kumar’s house at 6 am on the pretense of delivering a parcel. They later shot at him and fled.
Manoj was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital, where he was operated upon. Doctors said a bullet was recovered from his ribs and that it had missed his lungs and heart.
Manoj, who usually stays alone at V-18, West Patel Nagar, had a guest—his sister-in-law, Poonam, when he was shot.
Poonam’s brother, Arun Kumar, said, “Poonam said it was 6 am when she heard the door bell. When she opened the door, two men at the door said they had a parcel for Manoj.”
When Poonam told them that she would give the parcel to Manoj, they replied that it was “company policy” to give the parcel to the addressee, police said.
“I woke Manoj and he went for the parcel. The next moment, one of them took out a gun and fired at Manoj,” Poonam told police. Manoj works with Pearl Global Exports in Gurgaon as a senior merchandiser and a probe is on into the shooting, police said.
